If you are a fluent Mandarin speaker with excellent communication skills in both English and Mandarin, this position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role improving pupils' Mandarin listening and speaking skills at one of the UK’s leading schools.

As Mandarin Language Assistant, you will support the Head of Mandarin in teaching pupils to reach their highest potential. This will include conducting conversation sessions, improving pupils’ cultural awareness, assisting with events or outings organised by the department and developing teaching and learning resources.

Previous experience of working in a school is not essential, however you will need a genuine enthusiasm for Mandarin, with an engaging personality and motivation to work with young people. A willingness to learn new skills and contribute ideas is equally important.

Uppingham School is a mixed, Church of England independent secondary school with sixth form and boarding, located in Leicestershire. The secondary school, situated in Uppingham has approximately 791 students on record.

Uppingham School was founded in 1584, originally as a school for boys. In 1975 girls were admitted, and it became fully co-educational as of 2001. The majority of students attending the secondary school are boarders.

Work is generally presented neatly and pupils’ note-taking is effective. They develop good numeracy skills and their capacity to think critically is notable. Creative abilities are well developed and their exploration of ideas is particularly marked in their enrichment activities. Pupils’ study habits are good. In the lessons observed, pupils worked very well with each other, and also worked well independently. They enjoy their work and this stems in part from the good-natured atmosphere in lessons.
