Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the executive team at John Lyon School. We are seeking a Marketing & Communications Officer on a permanent basis to provide a high-quality service to the Director of Marketing and Communications and the School. This is an exciting time to join the School, as we have recently merged with Quainton Hall prep school and have become co-educational this academic year.

Working closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, this role will help promote the School to a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external, including prospective and current parents and pupils, alumni, governors, staff, local residents and local organisations. The object of the role is to assist with all aspects of marketing, focusing on developing digital marketing to include the website, social media channels, digital advertising, public relations and other media.

The successful candidate will have outstanding communication skills, with the confidence to deal with a wide range of people. They will have excellent IT skills and be capable of prioritising their workload to deliver the highest quality products against challenging deadlines, whilst remaining calm and approachable under pressure.

For the right candidate, there may be some flexibility over whether this role is carried out on a year-round or ‘term-time only plus’ basis, as well as around the weekly working hours. Nevertheless, we will also require a flexible approach to working hours from the post holder (for example in support of School events outside of normal School hours), and there may also be a requirement to occasionally undertake work at the prep school site.

Salary: £27,000 - £32,000 p.a. depending on skills and experience, and annual working pattern

Hours: 40 hours per week, 36 weeks p.a. (term time plus two weeks) to year-round

The School’s benefits include:

  • Complimentary lunch during term-time.
  • Fees remission for children of staff.
  • Use of the School’s Sports Centre (including swimming pool) at designated times.
  • Discount membership to Harrow School’s Golf Club.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • Commitment to professional development.

For further information and to apply please refer to the job description, person specification and application forms at the following link: https://www.johnlyon.org/information/vacancies/

Closing date: 12pm, Monday 24 January 2022.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and an Enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

As a provider of employment and education, we value the diversity of our staff and students. We are committed to providing a fair, equitable and mutually supportive learning and working environment for our students and staff.

John Lyon is Northwest London’s leading co-ed, all-through 3 to 18, independent school. We are forward-thinking and dynamic in our approach. Our eight School Values: Ambition, Community, Creativity, Enquiry, Excellence, Heritage, Innovation and Resolve guide us in all we do and are embedded into School life.

Together with our Prep School, we proudly serve families in Harrow-on-the-Hill, around Harrow and further afield by offering a world-class school experience. John Lyon is a happy and thriving community.

At John Lyon, we believe that every pupil has unique talents and strengths. We pride ourselves on providing an enriching, supportive and challenging environment for every pupil, while promoting a culture of academic excellence, personal responsibility and respect for others.

Academic work is just the beginning, and we firmly believe that the additional opportunities we provide through our extra-curricular, co-curricular and Excellence programmes are equally important, playing a vital role in equipping our pupils with the skills and experiences they will need to help them succeed in life at school and beyond. Pupils find that our vibrant and inclusive co-ed classrooms create a diverse learning community in which all can thrive.

We embrace technology and put it at the forefront of all that we do. As a ‘Microsoft Showcase School’, we are one of only 82 other schools and colleges in the UK to be recognised by Microsoft.

We are not your typical school. We are part of something much bigger. John Lyon School sits within John Lyon Foundation and alongside the Harrow Family of Schools, which includes Harrow School itself and Harrow International Schools around the globe. Pupils benefit from these close links and regularly take part in pan-Family events, including an annual Fifth Form Conference, assemblies and lessons streamed with partner schools, creative-writing anthology and a STEAM magazine. In addition, staff often have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues all over the world in order to develop best practice and exchange ideas and resources.
