Job overview

Background to the post

This exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as the school’s Marketing Manager.  Our school continues to go from strength to strength, with many school years being oversubscribed due to demand for places.  There are tremendous benefits to working in the independent schools’ school sector and St. Michael’s is one of Wales’ leading schools.  In 2017, our pupils and staff secured the highest GCSE results in Wales, in 2018 we were placed 30th in the country by The Times for A-Level and 27th in 2019, along with the award of Welsh Independent Secondary School of the Year.  This year, we have just been named as Welsh Independent Secondary School of the Decade by The Sunday Times.  These achievements are down to our hard working staff who go above and beyond in everything that they do and our highly motivated pupils, whose conduct and enthusiasm supports them to achieve great things.  Pupil behaviour is exemplary and a strong pastoral system ensures that rewards and sanctions create a supportive and optimistic climate which allows learning to take priority.

The role of Marketing Manager is a critically important one to the school’s continued success.  It will be your responsibility to know the school, its curriculum and course choices exceptionally well, taking the lead with promoting the varied opportunities available to prospective pupils and their parents.  You will work closely with the school’s Registrar who handles the administration of enquiries, visits and offers.  You will build strong working relationships with all members of staff, generating content for the school’s website and social media channels, visiting classrooms and attending school events.  Working with the Headmaster, you will plan and deliver campaigns to raise the profile of the school locally and nationally.  You will support the operation of the school’s many open days and assist the School Leadership Team with welcoming prospective parents and answering their questions.  Working closely with the central group marketing team, you will help to smoothly handle international applications generated from leads overseas, ensuring that candidates are suitable for entry to the school and meet our requirements.  You’ll also play a key role in ensuring compliance with visa and sponsorship regulations.

You will need to be a creative and people-orientated person, who thrives on organising complex and changing projects, identifying innovative opportunities and delivering best value for money within the budget.  You will wholeheartedly support our aims as an independent day and boarding school, where many parents make significant financial sacrifices to fund their children’s education.  If you join us, you will benefit from opportunities for professional development and the chance to be part of a friendly and encouraging staff team, in an optimistic and enjoyable working environment.  We welcome applications from a range of different industries and career sectors.

Application method: Covering letter (one side of A4 max) and fully completed application form.  There is no need to provide a CV.  The covering letter should outline how your skills and experience make you suitable for the role, paying close attention to the specific requirements in a school setting.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 30th June

Shortlisted candidates notified by: Friday 2nd July

Interviews to be held: Week commencing Monday 5th July

Located in Llanelli, South Wales, close to the coastline and not far from the Gower, St. Michael's School is situated in a picturesque area of natural beauty, with excellent links to the M4 motorway. We educate boys and girls from 3-18, broadly following the best of the National Curriculum, then GCSE & A-Level programmes. Although very academically successful, we also focus on young people's character development, resilience and confidence. Our university destinations are excellent and we enjoy the support of alumni who often return to share their experiences with existing pupils. We have just over 400 pupils in our community and are therefore small enough to know everyone individually, but also large enough to provide a wide range of opportunities.

St. Michael's is No. 1 school in Wales for GCSE results - 80% A* & A, summer 2017. We're also one of The Times' Top 20 UK Independent Schools (co-educational).  In 2019 we were awarded Welsh Independent Secondary of the Year (Sunday Times) and in 2021 we were awarded Welsh Independent Secondary of the Decade (Sunday Times).

With a dedicated and hardworking staff, St. Michael’s School is one of Wales’ leading Independent Schools.  Through high quality teaching, continuous assessment and regular examinations we are quickly able to identify pupils’ strengths. Small class sizes ensure that learning is tailored to the individual and that they are academically challenged throughout their school life.  We aim to create an environment where pupils feel cared for and respected. We nurture and support our children to develop confidence in their own abilities ensuring each child reaches their full potential.  We successfully combine traditional methods with a broad and well balanced curriculum, designed to enthuse and inspire our pupils, whilst aiming to challenge each child’s natural desire to learn.
