Summary Job Description


• In summary your main role as class Teacher is to:

• Be responsible for the preparation and development of appropriate lessons and teaching materials, to ensure that the pupils experience a broad, balanced, relevant and stimulating curriculum

• Be accountable for ensuring the highest possible standards of learning, progress and achievement outcomes for all pupils that you teach

• Be aware of pupils’ capabilities, and plan teaching experiences to ensure that each pupil has the opportunity to achieve the maximum of her/ his capabilities

• Have a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND; EAL; Able & Talented and be able to make appropriate educational provision for these pupils with support from the Workshop department.

• Demonstrate a clear understanding of appropriate teaching strategies for the teaching of reading; including use of systematic synthetic phonics .

• Use an appropriate range of observation, assessment, monitoring and recording strategies as a basis for setting challenging learning objectives for pupils of all backgrounds, abilities and dispositions, monitoring learners’ progress and levels of attainment

• Make accurate and productive use of assessment to secure pupils’ progress

• Provide pupils with opportunities to manage their own learning to become independent learners

• Give pupils regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage pupils to respond to the feedback, reflect on progress, their emerging needs and to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study

• Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons

• Set homework and plan other out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding pupils have acquired as appropriate

• Contribute towards the extra-curricular programme at Griffin House by running an after-school club.

• Liaise with parents, as appropriate regarding their children’s progress.

• Attend parents evenings and write summer term reports for those children that you teach.

• Share the duty rota for breaks, lunchtimes and extra-curricular clubs. 

• Be available for other ad hoc School events as advised by the Head from time to time.

• The Employer further reserves the right to deploy you within the School in any reasonable capacity and with any age group in accordance with your skills. 


This post will be subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check as our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children in our care. Training and support will be an ongoing aspect of the role.
