Job Description

  • Promote the mission and philosophy of the school, ensuring that children work towards being truly bilingual, international citizens.
  • Ensure planning, preparation, recording, assessment, and reporting are of high quality and meet the varying learning and social needs of students.

  • Teach Secondary Mathematics from Year 7 to Year 13.

  • Effectively communicate the school’s narrative, being an ambassador for the school at all times.

Leadership Responsibilities (if interested in applying for a position of responsibility within the maths team):

  • Contribute to school improvement planning and curriculum development.
  • Develop and deploy curriculum, schemes, budgets, staffing, and resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure your team has set challenging and developmental objectives and monitor and support this process through observations and conversations.
  • Coach, mentor, and help develop subject teachers to be the best they can be.
  • Create meaningful accountability for outcomes.
  • Be an outstanding role model.
  • Work with the Head of Secondary, MLT, Assistant Head, appropriate Heads of Department, and the Mathematics team to establish a clear, shared understanding of the importance of high-quality teaching of mathematics that engages students and enables them to achieve ambitious goals.
  • Track and analyze data from the Assistant Head, ensuring effective challenge and intervention plans are in place for individual and groups of students.
  • Analyze and interpret national, local, and school data, translating international requirements and expectations into policy and practice.
  • Develop and implement policies and practices for mathematics reflecting a commitment to high achievement: inspiring students to reach their potential and staff to continuously develop and raise standards

Engagement and Interaction:

  • Support extracurricular activities and events beyond the classroom.
  • Organize and plan day trips related to the subject area as needed.
  • Lead extracurricular clubs according to school expectations.
  • Assist with school-wide events such as productions and assemblies.
  • Participate in the school's core program, including delivering a core CAS club.

Learning and Teaching:

  • Inspire students to become enthusiastic, curious, and engaged learners.
  • Set consistently high standards for learning.
  • Develop effective learning strategies for students.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and improve teaching practices.
  • Plan teaching programs that offer exemplary learning opportunities.
  • Identify and support individual learning needs.
  • Maintain high levels of behavior conducive to learning.
  • Utilize baseline data to establish ambitious targets for student achievement.
  • Effectively incorporate homework and co-curricular learning opportunities.

Planning and Preparation:

  • Use formative feedback and summative assessment to plan challenging learning activities for all students.
  • Monitor and document students' progress to ensure they are on track to achieve challenging goals.
  • Report on progress to relevant stakeholders, including students, parents, form tutors, and the Head of Department.

Professional and Personal Development:

  • Fully participate in the school's performance management procedures and appraisal, including setting objectives.
  • Continuously develop by identifying and implementing professional development targets, utilizing the success factors system and performance management process to reflect on teaching and learning practices.
  • Develop a personal development plan to enhance performance.
  • Engage in learning walks, observations, and coaching sessions as needed.

Pastoral Care:

  • Act as a form tutor for students in any secondary year group.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and provide pastoral care to students.
  • Maintain a purposeful and safe learning environment for all students.
  • Promote the overall progress and well-being of individual students and the class.
  • Contribute to the preparation of action plans and support mechanisms.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and collaborate with other staff members as necessary.

Required Skills/Abilities

Qualification/Training:

  • Degree level qualification or higher in mathematics plus PGCE/QTS – Essential

Experience:

  • Experience in teaching the UK National Curriculum – Essential
  • Experience in teaching IB and IGCSE mathematics - Desirable
  • Proven track record with a minimum of two years’ teaching experience – Essential
  • Strong classroom practice and interpersonal skills – Essential
  • Demonstrable evidence of innovating and adapting curriculum to engage children and enable them to reach their potential – Essential
  • Experience working in partnership with parents – Essential
  • (if applying for Head of Faculty) Experience leading a highly successful department and school – Desirable

Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills – Essential
  • Ability to teach different age ranges and English proficiency levels – Essential

About The British International School, Bratislava

The British International School Bratislava is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational all-through independent school with sixth form in Slovakia, serving students from the age of 2-18. The all-through school is situated in Bratislava. 

The British International School Bratislava opened in 1997 and welcomes students from over 42 nationalities every year. Students follow an international curriculum, studying towards IGCSE exams and later an International Baccalaureate Diploma. Facilities include a dance studio, gym, a theatre, science laboratories, outdoor play areas and sports courts. Pupils are taught in English and offered Slovak language lessons.
