Isamilo International School Mwanza seeks a highly motivated and passionate teacher to join and contribute to the success of an over-subscribed international school that believes in providing a British Curriculum education to both expatriate and Tanzanian children. Giving every student of different backgrounds the opportunity to develop life-long knowledge, experience and skills that will equip them to pursue a career path of their choice is our aim. We have teaching posts to start in September 2017.

The School:

Isamilo International School is a Cambridge International Curriculum school in Mwanza, Tanzania established in 1956. It is the oldest and only international school in Mwanza, for children aged two to eighteen years old. We also have boarding students from other regions of Tanzania. We offer an exceptional and well balanced education to 500+ children from a broad spectrum of cultural backgrounds. We have a team of creative, resourceful, inspiring and committed expatriate and national teachers. 

The campus incorporates a sports field, netball and tennis courts as well as an outdoor 25 metre swimming pool. There is a great range of extra curricular activities offered by our staff. Community Service is very strong in the school with staff and students supporting our Saturday School outreach programme and local orphanages.

The academic calendar has three terms.  Term 1 generally runs from September 1st to December 8th. Term 2 is from 3rd January to 31 March while Term 3 is from 18 April to 7th July. (based on 2016-17 dates)

The Parent Teacher Association is active in supporting the school through their presence and fundraising activities. Parents are expected to attend parent-teacher consultations.

Location:

Mwanza is a port city on the southern shores of Lake Victoria in north-western Tanzania. With a population of over 700,000 it is Tanzania's second largest city, after Dar es Salaam. Mwanza is the capital of the surrounding Mwanza Region. Mwanza is 135 km (2 hour drive) from the Serengeti National Park. Mwanza is also just a short flight away from Dar es Salaam, Mount Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar.

The candidate:

  • Relevant degree and professional post-graduate teaching qualification
  • A minimum of 3 years of post-qualifying teaching experience
  • A strong understanding and working experience of the English curriculum according to the post
  • A creative and enthusiastic approach both in and out of the classroom
  • A willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular and pastoral life of school
  • A team player with excellent inter-personal skills with students, staff and parents and who must be able to work both independently and collaboratively
  • A genuine commitment to the well-being and pastoral care of students from all backgrounds
  • A role model to students, someone who is always striving to inspire a love of learning in all
  • Excellent administrational, organisational, planning, AFL and ICT skills
