MATHS LEAD

Teenage Kicks – Failsworth, Greater Manchester

Salary: £39,900 – £48,440 per annum
M3–M6 equivalent (£38,400 – £46,940) + £1,500 Maths Lead Responsibility Allowance

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Teenage Kicks is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and committed Maths Lead to take responsibility for the delivery and development of Mathematics across our school.

Teenage Kicks is a specialist independent school supporting young people aged 11–16 who may have struggled to engage or succeed within mainstream education. Our approach is built around three core values: Engagement, Progress and Outcomes.

This is a teaching-led subject leadership role. The successful candidate will have a substantial Maths teaching commitment while taking responsibility for ensuring that the Maths curriculum is well planned, appropriately sequenced and effectively delivered across the school.

We are therefore looking for an established classroom practitioner who is ready to take ownership of Mathematics across Teenage Kicks.

THE ROLE

As Maths Lead, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality Maths teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4, including GCSE Mathematics and Functional Skills where appropriate.

  • Lead the planning, development and sequencing of the Maths curriculum.

  • Ensure the curriculum is accessible and appropriately challenging for pupils with a wide range of starting points and needs.

  • Adapt teaching for pupils with SEND, EHCPs, SEMH needs and other barriers to learning.

  • Monitor pupil progress and use assessment information to identify gaps and plan appropriate interventions.

  • Maintain accurate assessment and progress information, including records within Arbor.

  • Support colleagues involved in the delivery of Maths and share effective teaching strategies and resources.

  • Contribute to quality assurance within Maths, including reviewing pupils' work, curriculum implementation and outcomes.

  • Support appropriate qualification pathways for pupils, including GCSE Mathematics and Functional Skills.

  • Work alongside colleagues to support examination preparation, access arrangements and intervention programmes.

  • Work closely with the Headteacher, SEND team, Learning Mentors and wider school team to improve engagement and outcomes.

  • Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding and record concerns appropriately using CPOMS.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a qualified teacher with QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Is an experienced classroom practitioner with strong secondary Mathematics subject knowledge.

  • Has successful experience of teaching Maths at Key Stages 3 and 4.

  • Understands curriculum planning, sequencing, assessment and qualification pathways.

  • Can adapt teaching effectively for pupils with different abilities, starting points and additional needs.

  • Is confident working with young people who may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education.

  • Has high expectations while being able to build positive and supportive relationships with pupils.

  • Is organised, reliable and confident taking ownership of Maths across the school.

  • Can support and influence colleagues without the role becoming unnecessarily management-heavy.

  • Works well as part of a small, supportive team.

  • Has a strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.

Previous subject leadership experience would be advantageous but is not essential. We would also welcome applications from strong and experienced Maths teachers who are ready to take the next step into subject leadership.

Experience within a specialist school, SEND, SEMH or alternative provision environment would be advantageous, as would experience delivering Functional Skills Mathematics.

WHY JOIN TEENAGE KICKS?

Teenage Kicks is deliberately different from a large mainstream secondary school. Our smaller environment allows staff to know pupils well, adapt learning around individual needs and see the impact of their work.

This role offers an experienced Maths teacher the opportunity to take genuine ownership of the subject without moving into a predominantly administrative or management-based Head of Department position.

You will have the freedom to shape and develop Maths provision while remaining directly involved in teaching pupils and improving outcomes.

Engagement. Progress. Outcomes.

SAFEGUARDING

Teenage Kicks is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

The successful applicant will be subject to the appropriate safer recruitment and pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check with children's barred list check, satisfactory references, right-to-work checks and verification of relevant qualifications.
