Job overview

Haybrook College Trust is seeking to recruit an energetic and inspiring Maths Teacher for our Alternative Provision in Slough called Activate. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the team of Haybrook College and make a real difference in the lives of Slough’s most vulnerable young people.

We nurture, engage and educate students who face barriers to learning by providing a range of high-quality educational programmes, helping to make positive changes in the lives of young people and ensuring the best possible educational outcomes. Our aim is to help our pupils to make positive behaviour choices and become independent learners with positive futures.

Working in an alternative Provision takes a special kind of person and is very different from mainstream settings. With an average of 8 pupils in a class and a shorter, but more intense teaching day, it gives you the time and ability to get to know the pupils in-depth and support their needs to secure the best possible personal and educational outcomes. The successful candidate will find this post challenging, exciting, varied and fulfilling. You will be working in our Key Stage 4 Alternative Provision, Activate, with a range of dedicated staff who want to achieve the best possible outcomes for our cohort of young people. The centre is situated on Queens Road in Slough.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Maths teacher with a passion for the subject and the ability to promote the love of learning within the Maths curriculum. You will also have a passion for SEND and meeting the individual needs of pupils. As a teacher of Maths, you will have knowledge of the relevant curriculum for KS3 and KS4, experience of teaching pupils with a range of vulnerabilities, challenging behaviour or SEND, and above all, have the desire and drive to see the most vulnerable young people in society succeed.

You will be energetic, highly resilient and adaptable individual with excellent creativity and flexibility of thinking to ensure challenges are met and problems are solved. A high level of understanding of SEMH, SEND, safeguarding, equality, and fairness are as important as a good sense of humour, openness and compassion; all of which will be needed in this role to support our complex young people through these challenging times. The ability to communicate effectively with parents and outside agencies is essential.

About the role:

  • Working with the Head of Centre and teaching colleagues, you will provide vision and drive for your subject, which will inspire and motivate young people, staff, and other members of the College community.

  • You will deliver your subjects to ensure that all the young people you teach make progress academically, socially and work towards becoming independent learners.

  • You will carry out the duties of this post in line with the remit outlined in the current School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document including the conditions of employment for teachers and the College policies.

This post is suitable for those with either a mainstream, Alternative Provision, or special school background, with a strong understanding of SEND and how to meet pupils’ needs. The post may suit an experienced upper KS2 primary teacher looking to experience secondary special education. The post will be paid on the Main to Upper Teachers’ pay scale with additional allowances for London Fringe and SEND. QTS preferred but we will consider an ECT or experienced Unqualified Teacher who demonstrates experience and passion for working with pupils with SEND.

Working with young people with a range of SEND needs is not for everyone. It takes a special kind of person to give kindness and compassion to a complex and often challenging cohort of young people. We work hard to support our staff so they can do the best possible job and find that work life balance everyone deserves.

We offer:

  • Excellent professional support from a welcoming wider team across the college.

  • Regular line management support from a member of the senior leadership

  • Additional support from an experienced central team.

  • Free access to Educational Support Partnership.

  • Highly valuable Continued Professional Development delivered by experts.

  • A thorough induction package and training.

  • Competitive salary.

  • Access to Teachers Pension Scheme.

  • Free flu vaccinations.

  • Access to salary sacrifice schemes for cycles, ICT/Electronics and Ikea.

  • Wellbeing days.

Interested candidates are welcome to visit the school or to have an informal conversation. Please contact Suzanne Green (Executive Head Teacher’s PA) on 01628 696075 or suzannegreen@haybrookcollege.co.uk to arrange.

Closing date: 9am, Friday 7 March 2026.

Haybrook College is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all of its students and staff.  Applicants will be required to undertake a DBS enhanced disclosure. Haybrook College strives to be an equal opportunities employer and recruits from all sections of the community solely on basis of ability to fulfil the job requirements.
