Job overview

‘Think Differently’ to inspire young people to overcome all barriers and achieve their dreams. This is the Vision Statement of Think Differently Education Trust (TDET).

  • Do you want to have a positive impact on some of the most vulnerable children’s lives in Birmingham?

  • Do you want to work in an organisation that recognises the benefits of a good work/life balance for its workforce?

  • Do you want to work in an organisation that invests heavily in CPD and allocates additional training days to develop its staff?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to all these questions, join our team!

This is a particularly exciting time to join James Brindley, the founding school of the newly established Think Differently Education Trust. This marks the beginning of a bold new chapter for our community, opening up fresh opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and professional growth across Birmingham. By joining us now, you’ll be part of shaping a progressive trust from the ground up – helping to drive meaningful change for our young people while developing your own career in a supportive and ambitious environment.

We are seeking two talented individuals who can deliver high-quality Maths lessons to young people who have complex mental health difficulties and other medical needs. Whilst previous experience of working in a specialist setting may be beneficial, many of our staff come from a mainstream background. Full and comprehensive training will be given to support the transition.

As a creative person with a passion for mathematics, you will have excellent subject and pedagogical knowledge. You will work closely with colleagues and the wider team to ensure young people still have access to learning and gain practical experience. Many of our young people have gaps in their education; you will need to have a creative approach to teaching to reduce the impact of educational disadvantage, enabling all our young people to access learning and make expected progress. We are looking for two resilient and dynamic teachers who can inspire young people. You should have a track record as a consistently good/outstanding practitioner, as well as being able to develop and support the needs of the whole young person and a commitment to enabling all young people to thrive. You must demonstrate tenacity coupled with experience of working with KS3 and KS4 pupils; experience of teaching post-16 Mathematics would be advantageous, but not essential.

Contract/Hours: 32.5 hours per week, permanent.

Location: To be discussed at the interview stage (contracts require that you may be asked to work at any other James Brindley Centres).

Salary: MPS/UPS (£32,916 – £45,352 / £47,472 – £51,048) + SEN Allowance (£2,787). There is the potential for a TLR 2a for Second in Maths for the right candidate.
