Job overview

Do you want to teach in a school with

• Absolutely no behaviour concerns

• An innovative, effective and time efficient approach to marking and feedback

• A dedication to improving teaching through a huge amount of optional and tailored CPD

• A renewed focus of the well being of staff and students

Bedminster Down School is looking for an excellent teacher to join our young, dynamic and rapidly improving Maths Department from January 2018. In 2015/16, 53% of students left the school with a grade C or above in Maths. This year the department recorded its best ever GCSE outcomes, with 62% of students attaining a grade 4 or above, and Maths progress greater than any other area of school performance. We have introduced a skills based curriculum that runs from year 7 to 10 and this year we are focusing our efforts on driving forward problem solving, reasoning and high levels of challenge in every year group. The school is rated as good by Ofsted, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic teacher to help us move towards outstanding. The successful candidate will be joining a friendly and hardworking team, which is always looking to improve. We provide a wide range of professional development opportunities and work hard to support colleagues becoming the very best teachers. Our CPD programme allows staff to attend sessions of their choosing, focusing on their unique needs. We even reward teachers who actively engage with CPD throughout the year. We operate a ‘Ready to Learn’ behaviour system in the school and classroom behaviour is exceptional – allowing teachers to focus on providing high quality learning opportunities. The pastoral and senior teams ensure that any low level disruption is dealt with rapidly and effectively, giving teachers the chance to spend their work time on planning and delivering lessons which will maximize progress. We have developed new ways to assess progress and feedback to pupils; as a school and department we are putting more time into planning and differentiation and turning our backs on hours of book marking. Delivering live marking and impact marking strategies allow us know exactly what our students need to do to progress and target appropriate work to deliver outstanding lessons. If you would like to discuss this post, please contact the school on 01173532800 and ask for Mr Eagon. We welcome applicants who are excited by challenge and those who aspire to leadership in the future, including NQT’s. Several members of our team, including our inspirational Head of Department, are Primary specialists who have made the conversion to KS3 and KS4 and we would be very pleased to welcome applications from Primary colleagues. Our support and development of those new to teaching is second to none.

Applications should include:

• Completed application form

• An accompanying letter of no more than two sides of A4; stating your reasons for applying and clearly showing how your experience and skills have prepared you for this post.

Closing date is midday on the 18th of October and interviews will be held on the 20th of October.

Please forward application forms and letters to Miss T Smith at tara.smith@bedminsterdown.com

Bedminster Down attracts pupils from a large, increasing, number of partner primaries from across the south-west side of the city, with families resident from Highridge to Windmill Hill, as well as Bishopsworth, Headley Park and Bedminster. A measure of the school’s growing popularity is that we have had well over three hundred applications for 216 places in September 2017. Our last OFSTED inspection in 2014 found the school to be judged as good overall, with good findings for behaviour, leadership teaching and achievements. In 2016 the school received its highest ever GCSE results.
At Bedminster Down we have an absolute belief that with the right support and encouragement every student will succeed. Our challenging and motivating curriculum ensures that the most able; those in need of additional support and all other learners are stretched and supported to achieve their potential. Our students benefit and thrive in our learning environment that promotes high-quality learning experiences, teamwork, communication and independence. Lessons are supplemented by over twenty five extra-curricular activities. Our curriculum and pastoral systems ensure students skills and abilities are nurtured and foster excellent relationships with parents. We want our School future success to be measured not just in terms of great exam results but also in terms of our ability to give our students something extra that will give them an advantage in an ever more competitive world.
