SEN Maths Teacher (KS2–KS4 Pathways)

Secondary-aged students working below age-related expectations

Suitable for Primary or Secondary trained teachers (QTS required)

About Orange Tree School

Orange Tree School is a specialist independent SEN school for young people aged 11–19. Our students often arrive having experienced challenges in mainstream education and have significant gaps in their learning.

We provide a small, therapeutic and nurturing environment where relationships, consistency and care are at the heart of everything we do.

Our aim is to help students:

  • Rebuild confidence

  • Re-engage with education

  • Achieve meaningful academic and personal progress

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and nurturing Maths Teacher to join our team.

This role focuses on teaching secondary-aged students working below age-related expectations, often at KS2–KS3 levels, and supporting them to make progress towards GCSE or appropriate pathways.

This is not a traditional secondary maths role. Success in this position comes from:

  • Building strong relationships

  • Adapting teaching to individual needs

  • Supporting students to experience success in learning

Many of our students are working at KS2–KS3 levels, so strong knowledge of primary maths pedagogy is highly valued.

Who This Role Would Suit

This role would suit someone who:

  • Is passionate about SEN, SEMH and inclusive education

  • Enjoys teaching foundational maths and closing gaps in learning

  • Can teach across a wide ability range

  • Thrives in a nurturing, relationship-based environment

We welcome applications from both primary and secondary trained teachers with QTS, particularly those with experience in SEN, SEMH or alternative provision.

This role is particularly well suited to primary-trained teachers with QTS looking to work in a secondary SEN setting.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (No ECTs)

  • Has experience working with students with SEN and/or SEMH needs

  • Can teach Maths across KS2–KS3/4 content

  • Ability to contribute to another subject area (e.g. IT at KS3)

  • Uses adaptive, creative and engaging teaching approaches

  • Builds strong, trusting relationships with students

  • Demonstrates patience, resilience and emotional intelligence

  • Understands that behaviour is communication

What We Offer

  • A supportive, therapeutic school environment

  • Small class sizes and personalised teaching

  • A collaborative and values-driven team

  • Ongoing professional development, particularly in SEN and trauma-informed practice

  • The opportunity to make a genuine and lasting difference

Safeguarding

Orange Tree School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

All appointments are subject to:

  • Enhanced DBS check

  • Prohibited Teacher Check

  • Safer recruitment procedures

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Application Process

Applications will be considered upon receipt, and interviews may take place at any time. The school reserves the right to close this vacancy early should a suitable candidate be appointed.
