ABOUT THE WORTHGATE SCHOOL

We are an outstanding independent boarding school for students aged 13+, offering programmes of study that include GCSE, A Level, IB Diploma and the University Foundation Programme. We offer our students a ‘home-from-home' experience, with an emphasis on a visibly caring culture across classrooms, boarding residences and extracurricular activities. We set high expectations for ourselves and each other and integrate language learning everywhere to equip our students for their continued education.

The Worthgate School is part of CATS Global Schools, a forward-facing organisation with a strong educational vision and mission, committed to inspiring the next generation of world shapers. The group brings together 16 institutions that provide students around the globe with the education they need to develop real-life skills for the future. Our dedicated team of pioneering, persevering people, including teachers and welfare specialists, work together to create a positive environment, so that every student achieves their full potential.

Are you looking for a teaching role, where you can devote time to educating international students with the highest aspirations? Our student body is diverse, inspiring and ever-growing in number. Consequently, an exciting opportunity has arisen to teach within the Mathematics faculty. The faculty has a collaborative ethos and contributes to many whole-school initiatives. In addition to offering the more traditional programmes of study such as GCSE and A-level, students can also follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, University Foundation Programme and various preparatory programmes (PRE-KS4 and PRE-KS5 one-year programmes).

We are looking for a teacher who can harness the international contexts of our classrooms and offer an inclusive environment for students to engage in dialogue and develop their academic skills. The ability to teach Mathematics at GCSE and A-level is essential, with the ability to teach Further Mathematics, STEP Mathematics and IBDP courses, desirable.

Applicants should also evidence a commitment to their professional development. There are opportunities at Worthgate for successful applicants to undertake the NPQ qualifications (Leading Teacher Development, Senior Leadership, NPQ SENCO) with us in partnership with UCL and multiple teachers enrol on these NPQ programmes each year. Since we belong to a wider group of schools (CATS Global Schools), the academic team benefit from cross-school collaborations and events. Staff are encouraged to identify and contribute to such professional relationships.

For September 2025, we are looking for a person who has:

• Subject specialism in Mathematics, with a degree in a related discipline;

• A proven record of excellent and reflective classroom practice;

• Responsive teaching strategies that incorporate high quality feedback and a focus on literacy;

• Enthusiasm for continued professional learning;

• Ability to share a global perspective regarding the importance and usefulness of Mathematics in society;

• Commitment to ensuring our students have an enriched, holistic boarding school experience.

Applications from experienced teachers and ambitious new professionals will be welcomed and considered.

Closing date: Friday 9th June 2025, 12 noon

Interview: Expected to take place week commencing 9th June 2025. However, we reserve the right to process any applications as they are received, and therefore interviews may be scheduled earlier than the above date.

The Worthgate School offers an outstanding international pre-university educational experience to students aged 14+ from all over the world. Students live and study onsite in the heart of the city of Canterbury, studying for GCSEs, A levels, IB and University Foundation Programmes, and preparing for admission to universities across the country and elsewhere. We pride ourselves on our approach to teaching and learning, with small class sizes and an informal atmosphere ensuring that students are treated as individuals and build great relationships with staff.

We are accredited by the Independent Schools Inspectorate, an organisation which assesses independent schools in the UK. The college achieved the highest rating in its ISI inspection (March 2019) and was rated ‘fully compliant’ in all areas covering boarding, welfare, achievement and results, curriculum, extra activities, pastoral care, leadership and teaching.

We take student welfare very seriously, providing comfortable, safe and secure en-suite boarding accommodation. Our friendly house staff provide a home from home, looking after our students whilst encouraging them to become confident and independent. The wide range of nationalities and cultures represented at our College reflects our aim of developing our students into ‘Global Citizens’ who treat one another with respect and tolerance.

The Worthgate School is part of the CATS Global Schools Group. CATS Global Schools is a leading provider of pre-university academic courses and English language courses in the UK. We provide programmes including A Level, IB and University Foundation, as well as English Language Study, to a growing number of international students seeking to win places at UK universities.  We operate a number of different educational brands: CATS College Cambridge, The Worthgate School in Canterbury and Guildhouse in London; CATS Academy in Boston; Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts (CSVPA) and Stafford House English language schools and study holidays. We benefit from being part of a global team focused on teaching and learning.
