Reporting Manager: Head of Mathematics

Job Purpose Summary: 

Knightsbridge School is a pre-preparatory and preparatory school educating 400 boys and girls ages 3 – 13, with a unique sense of vision centred on the KS Code. The Teacher of Mathematics will be required to teach students aged between 10 and 13 years old and must carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school’s policies.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

· Plan teaching to achieve progression in children’s learning;

· Set tasks, including homework, which challenge children and ensure a high level of interest, with feedback to students provided;

· Set appropriate and demanding expectations for children’s learning, motivation and presentation of work;

· Ensure the efficient and effective deployment of classroom support and provide supervision, e.g. Teaching and Learning Assistants;

· Complete planning (long, medium and short term) as required by the SLT.

· Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures and encouraging good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework;

· Provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge;

· Mark and monitor children’s work regularly and set targets for progress;

· Assess and record children’s progress systematically and keep records to check work is understood and completed, monitor strengths and weaknesses, inform planning and recognise the level at which each child is achieving;

· Undertake assessment of children as requested by examination bodies and school procedures;

· Prepare and present informative reports to parents;

· Report to parents regularly on their child’s progress

· Develop plans which identify clear targets and success criteria for its development and/or maintenance; and

· Contribute to the whole school’s planning activities.

Personality: 

· Excellent inter-personal skills;

· Interest in teaching upper KS2 children;

· Display enthusiasm, understanding and commitment to ensure the children’s experiences are positive and underpin their educational lives;

· Build effective and professional working relationships with children, staff, parents and visitors; and

· Support the aims, ethos and purpose of the school and ensure the school achieves these effectively;

Specific Job Skills & Experience:

  • Maths teaching experience, at least 4 years’ post qualified;
  • Be proactive      in matters relating to health and safety;
  • Good knowledge of the requirements for 11+ and 13+ exams; 
  • Have a working knowledge of teacher’s   professional duties and legal liabilities;
  • Have good numeracy and computer skills;
  • Have good spoken and written communication skills; and 
  • Preparing children for scholarships to      London Day and Boarding Schools. 

Qualifications

  • Secondary Teaching degree or equivalent

Salary range: £34,000pa - £39,000pa (based on teaching experience)

About Knightsbridge School

Knightsbridge School is an independent, mainstream, mixed preparatory school for children aged three to thirteen. Located in central London, it has approximately 398 students. 

Knightsbridge School opened in September 2006, housed in two mansions, and has since redone much of its décor. There are now well-equipped classrooms, a science laboratory, an ICT suite, an in-house catered dining hall, a performing arts studio, music rooms, a library and an art studio.

Knightsbridge School concentrates on classical education, with an emphasis on literacy and reasoning, as well as encouraging children to take part in extra-curricular activities. It offers an extensive programme, from judo and fencing to ballet and cookery. A modern language, either Italian, Spanish, Mandarin or Greek, must also be taken alongside French lessons.
