Outwood Academy Redcar is a forward-thinking 11-16 academy located in the scenic coastal town of Redcar. We are proud to be a pilot school for the OGAT Inclusive Classroom initiative, placing us at the forefront of inclusive practice.
We believe inclusion is a fundamental right, not a 'bolt-on'. We have invested in creating a 'low-arousal' environment—characterised by clutter-free classrooms and calming aesthetics—to ensure every student can focus and thrive. Our strategies are evidence-based and developed in partnership with educational psychologists, ensuring you have the expert backing and a calm environment to support every child in your classroom.
Welcome from the Community Executive Principal, Gemma Trattles
Welcome to Outwood Academy Redcar, located in the heart of Redcar, a vibrant coastal town in the beautiful region of the North East.
As Principal, I am immensely proud of our academy’s commitment to fostering a nurturing and challenging environment where every student can thrive. We are a community dedicated to the Outwood Grange Academies Trust’s core principle of ‘Students First,’ and we are constantly striving to raise standards and unlock the potential within each of our young people. Central to everything we do is our commitment to break down barriers to success, unlocking the true potential within our young people and creating an inclusive culture where everyone, regardless of background or ability, feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
We are seeking exceptional individuals to join our team of dedicated and passionate staff, professionals who share our passion for education and our unwavering belief in the power of transforming lives. If you are driven, dedicated, and eager to contribute to a school where you can truly make a difference, I invite you to explore the opportunities outlined within this advert. We look forward to welcoming you to Outwood Academy Redcar and the Outwood Family of schools.
About the Department
You will be joining an enthusiastic and energetic maths department, well-equipped with interactive TVs and visualisers in each classroom. The department operates out of seven classrooms based in a dedicated maths wing.
We also offer a comprehensive co-curricular programme, encompassing activities such as a thriving Axiom Maths Circle, the Outwood Maths Masters programme, and engagement in national competitions including the UKMT Maths Challenges. We value teachers with the skills and passion to teach high-ability students, and for the correct candidate, this role offers significant opportunities to lead in these areas.
Supportive Leadership: The department will be led by our experienced Head of Department with a vision to succeed, and you will be supported by an experienced team of School Improvement Partners as you work to raise attainment levels and offer an engaging curriculum experience that focuses on teaching for understanding.
Targeted Support: We benefit from a maths one-to-one tutor who offers intervention to students, helping you to raise attainment levels.
Maths Hub Connection: The Trust is very well connected to the local Maths Hubs, with the Yorkshire and Humber Hub being based in the Outwood Institute of Education. Here, you will have access to world-class pedagogical research and the chance to get involved in fantastic projects that influence maths teaching across the region.
Your Pathway to Professional Development:
At Outwood Academy Redcar, you are uniquely positioned to benefit from the Outwood Institute of Education (OIE), which is hosted directly on-site.
We view this role as a foundation for your growth, offering general teacher professional development that goes beyond formal training. Through the OIE and the Trust’s infrastructure, your professional development will include:
Dedicated Time: Weekly dedicated Learning & Performance Development time (L&P), ensuring you have space to focus on your growth.
Collaboration: Peer networks that allow you to connect with colleagues across the Family of Schools.
Broadening Horizons: Opportunities to engage in career-enhancing experiences, in and outside of the Trust, with the intention that any learning is shared and implemented in your own school and/or across the wider organisation.
Guidance: Access to coaching and mentoring support to help refine your practice and career path.
Holistic Support: A commitment to supporting our staff to manage their own wellbeing.
The Outwood Offer: We set high expectations and standards for all. To help you meet them, we offer a supportive environment where staff are valued and developed.
Applicants must hold UK QTS. If trained overseas, you must have the relevant evidence that your qualification equates to UK QTS.
If you are an excellent teacher ready to work as part of a supportive team and help drive a department to success, we would welcome your application.
Responsibilities
The Teacher is expected to implement and use a wide range of teaching and learning strategies within the classroom, applying techniques like Assessment for Learning (AfL) to continually improve student performance. A core duty involves effectively using student level data to identify areas for development and raise standards.
This professional must be aware of strategies available for improving the learning and achievement of all students, alongside possessing a good understanding of curriculum developments within their specific subject area. The role requires maintaining high expectations for all students and effectively communicating with students and their parents, both orally and in writing. The teacher is expected to work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing good practice across the department, and demonstrating creativity in problem solving and a willingness to adopt new approaches.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include a degree in an appropriate discipline related to the relevant subject and a teaching qualification coupled with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Required experience includes recent and relevant teaching experience (either in employment or training) and experience of assessment at Key Stage 3 and 4.
The successful candidate will be confident in using standard computer packages (word processing, email, and spreadsheets) and understand how these tools can enhance student learning. The role demands high levels of professionalism, including the ability to relate to students in a pleasant and sympathetic manner, and a capacity to recognise potential child safeguarding issues.
