Job overview

The Yew Chung Education Foundation (YCEF) has asked Teacherhorizons to lead the search for talented and experienced Maths teachers to join their prestigious international school in Shanghai.

Teacherhorizons<https://www.teacherhorizons.com/> connects teachers with opportunities in top schools all over the world. Teachers use it to explore schools overseas and gain free support from education experts. Since 2013 Teacherhorizons has placed over one hundred happy teachers in YCEF schools in Hong Kong and China. Feedback has been resoundingly positive...

“I am in Yew Chung Shanghai and I am loving every minute. The school is amazing with such lovely students. The academic potential of the students is nothing that I have ever come across before. The effort and work ethic the students show in their work is second to none. The expats are extremely friendly and my social life is exhaustive,” (a teacher recently placed at YCIS Shanghai)

Reputable schools across China and Hong Kong.

Yew Chung Education Foundation (YCEF) was established just over 80 years ago and is highly accredited. Today it educates over five thousand students in five schools across China. Their schools cater for students from pre-school through to high school as well as providing accredited higher education programmes tailoring to both local and international needs. YCEF nurture globally competitive students and shape them to be responsible global citizens. The foundation’s core values include upholding moral values on the basic tenets of Christian faith, but religion is not taught in schools nor are teachers required to be of any particular religion.

This is an exciting time to be involved in a pioneering and growing organisation that brings together the best of Eastern and Western education values. The Foundation’s successful International School model is expanding and developing. Currently they operate schools in many Chinese cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing, Qingdao as well as Hong Kong and the US, with plans to expand further.

YCIS Shanghai is an exceptional school - considered to be one of the leading international schools in Shanghai and the first to be officially registered with the Chinese government. The school is based in a prime location within Shanghai and has a truly international feel with students of 45 nationalities and teachers from 14 different countries.

“The school has lived up to every expectation and more. The staff both Chinese and Western have been very welcoming and accommodating. The school is beautiful and I think you were right about how this school would be a good fit for us” Teacher at YCIS Shanghai, Sept 2014

Shanghai

Shanghai needs no selling. Vibrant, energetic and forward-looking it is rapidly evolving into one of the world’s great cities, it offers something for everyone. It’s where ultra-modern meets traditional, corporate meets local and the East meets West. If you wish to be immersed in an exciting phase of China’s development (with everything that comes with it), there is no place like Shanghai!

The Opportunity: Maths Teacher (IGCSE and IB)

YCIS Shanghai is looking for an experienced IGCSE and IB Maths teacher or leader to join their team in August 2018. This position offers a generous package including a salary that enables most teachers to save considerably. It also includes housing, return flights, healthcare, paid education for dependent children, a baggage allowance and a gratuity at the end of the 2 year contract.

Additionally, being part of a large organisation, the professional development opportunities on offer are excellent.

How to apply

Applicants should have a thorough understanding of international curricula well as the National Curriculum for England. Additionally, all candidates must be fully qualified teachers with a Bachelors of Education or relevant degree + PGCE (or equivalent) and at least 2 solid years teaching experience post qualification. Teachers must share, and be able to demonstrate, a shared vision and education philosophy to YCEF.

The Principal will be in London on the weekends of 13/14 and 20/21st January 2018 to interview prospective teachers in person. First preference will be given to those able to attend the face-to-face interviews in London. Only once these have been completed will they consider Skype interviewing those unable to attend for the jobs that remain unfilled.

The applications deadline is 4th February 2018 but early applications are strongly encouraged to avoid disappointment!

About Yew Chung International School of Shanghai Puxi - Gubei Campus

Yew Chung International School of Shanghai is a mixed Christian all-through school with sixth form situated in the Puxi district of Shanghai, eastern China. It is an independent day school that is recognised by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the Council of International Schools and National Center for School Curriculum and Textbook Development. It is a bilingual school (English and Mandarin) throughout all ages that sees English proficiency as essential to its students, with its own English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme. The school has a school roll of around 2,500 students between the ages of 2-18. It provides an IGCSE curriculum and an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme for its students.

The Yew Chung Foundation to which the school belongs was first established in Hong Kong in 1932. In 1992, the mayor of Shanghai invited the school to move to his city as provision for the area’s increasing numbers of expatriate families. Under its new campus, the school became the first international school in Shanghai to be recognised and officially registered with the Government of China, ahead of its 1995 official opening. More recently, Yew Chung International Schools became the only group of schools in China to be given the Cambridge Award for Excellence in Education.
