Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Matron for a Boarding House to be responsible for the smooth running of the House including the pastoral care, well-being and supervision of students. This will include supporting their studies and activities, dealing with travel, record-keeping, administration and ensuring student safety.

Situated on the beautiful Moray Coast in the North of Scotland, Gordonstoun is widely recognised as the world leader in character education. We have a co-educational community of over 500 students aged from 4-18, who are predominantly full boarding and are drawn from over 40 countries.

Applicants will need excellent communication and caring skills with enthusiasm and good flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances. Calmness, a great sense of responsibility and commitment are also key to the role. Experience in a similar setting is an advantage as is an SVQ 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) and a first aid qualification.

The Matron is a key member of the Pastoral Team in a Boarding House. As such, the Matron has an important role to play in the care, welfare and happiness of the students in the House.

The Matron is directly responsible in the first instance to the HP (House Parent) or the AHP (Assistant House Parent) when the latter deputises for the HP and through them to the Assistant Head Pastoral and eventually to the Deputy Head.

The post-holder will be full-time, “term time” Monday-Saturday, working shifts between 07:00-13:00 or 12:30-18:30. Due to the nature of the role, Matrons are expected to be flexible as and when it is necessary to ensure that the required level of service and care is in place.

●       Registered with SSSC or NMC or other professional body recognised by SSSC

●       Achieved SVQ 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent or working towards qualification

●       Experience of working with children/adolescents

Gordonstoun is striving to build a team that is truly inclusive. We welcome applications from marginalised and under-represented groups.
