Job overview

As a fully qualified Teacher with a fascination in all things video editing, TV production and sound recording, you’ve always hoped to find a role that gives you the chance to share that passion. And, though you may not have taught media before, you’ve certainly got the classroom expertise and subject knowledge needed to do so.

That’s why we’re looking for someone like you to join us here at Witherslack Group, to help us make a huge success of our latest exciting venture. As a leading provider of specialist education and care for children and young people with behavioural, emotional, communication and complex difficulties, we’re always striving for new ways to provide teaching in a stimulating and dynamic way.

With that in mind, we’ve created a brand-new state-of-the-art media bus to act as a travelling classroom. And we’re looking for a Media Teacher who can’t wait to get their hands on all the latest tech to run lessons from it! The bus is split into key areas and you’ll plan and deliver classes that engage young people in creating videos, radio programmes and music in its recording studio. Using brand new equipment, you’ll make full use of the resources. Going on the road across the North West, you’ll inspire our young people to do things that they didn’t think possible, with support from a range of Teaching Assistants to help them and you get the most out of the environment. Your inspirational approach will fill your students with as much enthusiasm and excitement as the bus itself.

The nature of what we do means that you’ll need to be as resilient as you are brilliant. So it’s all about balancing hardware and software knowledge with empathy and understanding. You’ll be someone who can both prepare the best media programmes and, yet, respond with calm and rationality when things you didn’t prepare for crop up. It takes real communication skills and the ability to connect with all kinds of people - including those with special educational needs – not just great, hands-on media experience. We will provide training and extra support where required, especially with any bits of software or equipment you aren’t familiar with, but give it your all and you’ll be rewarded in more ways than one.

You’ll also need:

To have acquired your QTS

Great classroom management skills

Strong IT skills, with knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Serif programmes, Garageband, iMovie or other media-specific programmes

Proven lesson planning skills

A full UK driving licence

Willingness to travel right across the UK, including overnight stays occasionally

Rewards

We know you’re going to do great things. So, we offer a salary and benefits package that’s among the best in our sector:

School holidays

Teachers’ Pension

Comprehensive induction

Health cash plan e.g. dental, optical and physiotherapy

24/7 counselling service

Cycle to work
