Media Technician

c£22,400 per annum for 0.8296 fte (full-time for 37 weeks pa)

Royal Russell is an HMC/IAPS co-educational school with over 1000 pupils between the ages of 3 and 18, situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon on the doorstep of London. We have over 150 boarding students in the Senior School, and are proud of our day and boarding facilities that rank amongst the best in the South of England.  Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. We aim to build on this alongside improving academic success to continue to be the family school of choice in South London. In March 2016 the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) judged the school as ‘excellent’ in all areas and in October 2018 we successfully passed a full ISI compliance inspection.

Are you a qualified and experienced Media Technician able to support the delivery of effective teaching and learning for Media GCSE and A Level? Both are very popular subjects and provide our students with many opportunities to use their skills to support events such as our highly successful MUN Conference held in October each year. You will assist students to produce their own media texts for their extra-curricular Media projects, supervise their use of the Media Studio and edit suites, and teach them Final Cut Pro and Adobe Photoshop skills together with the effective use of light and sound both in the studio and on location.

You should have previous experience in a studio environment and have the knowledge and experience to use Final Cut Pro and Adobe Photoshop to effectively edit moving image and photography. You must have an understanding of practical media applications and ideally, you should be able to work with green screen, have an understanding of fibre cabling and its use in media production, together with an interest in live vision mixing. It would be helpful if you have a desire to work on live events as the team provide professional support to many School-run events throughout the year. You should have high levels of computer literacy, good organisational skills and be equally happy working unsupervised as well as part of a team to a high standard. This is a full-time term-time position with the requirement to work for an additional 5 days during School holidays to support events. Your working hours would normally be 10.30-6.30pm but some flexibility around start and finish times would be required on occasion to meet the departments’ needs.

This is an exciting opportunity that offers excellent benefits including a competitive salary, working with a driven and dedicated team of staff, immediate non-contributory pension, free life cover, free car parking, free meals, working in our beautiful green parkland estate with easy access to transport links, a discount on School fees, and the use of our sporting and gym facilities, all combined with the opportunity to be part of the vibrant community of the historic Royal Russell School.

If you are interested in joining us, please visit http://www.royalrussell.co.uk/vacancies where you will find further information on this position and an application form.  All completed applications should be submitted to hr@royalrussell.co.uk  by 12 noon on Monday 25 March 2019. Applications will be considered on receipt and interviews will be held later that week. If you have not heard from us by Friday 29 March 2019, you should presume that you have not been successful on this occasion.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (including a check against the Children’s Barred List) and other pre-employment screening including references and medical fitness.
