Job Description: 

The midday supervisor will supervise students and the school’s lunch area during the midday lunch break and bus stop walks to ensure that the safety and welfare of students are maintained. 


Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

The following are the main duties and responsibilities but are not intended to be exhaustive: 

 Supervision 

  • Supervise students in the lunch area, MUGA and classrooms  
  • Encourage students to eat their lunch and monitor those who don’t, reporting any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) 
  • Supervise students on walks to their bus stop at the end of the school day 
  • Monitor students who aren’t engaging and give feedback on any concerns to DSL 
  • Make sure students tidy up after themselves in the lunch area  


Organisation 

  • Drive to partner school to pick up student lunches
  • Set out student lunches after collection  
  • Set up and put away the tables, chairs and other equipment needed for eating in the lunch area.


Health and Safety 

  • Observe students and the environment and take action to minimise any identified health and safety risks  
  • Deliver first aid to respond to minor incidents and refer any major incidents to a qualified first aider 
  • Record details of incidents in line with the school’s reporting procedures  
  • Be aware of and support students with medical/dietary needs 
  • Feedback concerns relating to students’ health and safety to DSL 


Behaviour 

  • Report any incidents of serious misbehaviour to the relevant staff member, in line with the school’s behaviour policy 
  • Write behaviour reports  
  • Take necessary action to minimise disruption and harm to students, in line with the school’s behaviour policy 
  • Follow any directions from teachers and the senior leadership team on supporting specific students with challenging behaviour  


Safeguarding  

  • Look out for any unidentified visitors approaching the school area and follow the school’s procedures for approaching/reporting individuals  
  • Look out for any unidentified individuals or persons approaching the students during bus stop walks 


Other areas of responsibility 

  • Read and follow the relevant school policies 
  • Undertake training required to develop in the role 


Candidate requirement: 

  • Working with children or young people  
  • Working and collaborating within a team   
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to issues that arise 
  • Ability to use own initiative and take action accordingly  
  • Effective communication with adults and children  
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds 
  • Ability to follow instructions from senior team leaders  
  • Ability to have a firm but fair approach to handling behaviour issues in line with the Academy’s policies  
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues  

 

Personal Qualities 

  • Commitment to supporting and understanding students' needs  
  • Uphold and promote the ethos and values of the Academy 
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times 
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion 
  • Willingness to undertake additional training 
  • Willingness to support with offsite visits  

 

Desirable qualifications include: 

  • A good standard of education to at least GCSE Grade C level or equivalent in English and Mathematics 
  • Current First Aid certificate 
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education, Safeguarding and GDPR compliance 
  • Hold an up to date fully enhanced DBS (must have before role commences)
