Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Sport Middle Leader with the ability to teach Health and Physical Education.

This is a tier 3 full-time fixed term appointment.

The Sport Program Leader will demonstrate the following:
•    A clear vision of and support for the College’s mission and its underlying values and ethos,
•    Leadership capacity – a broad vision that promotes a positive sporting attitude that is consistent with Franciscan values,
•    High-level educational leadership in the school community,
•    Empathy with young people and an ability to relate positively with them in the context of the sporting programs within the College,
•    Initiative, perseverance, acceptance of responsibility, effective organisational skill,
•    Build and maintain effective teams and develop co-operative working relationships that promote collegiality, high team morale and excellence in sport,
•    Ability to research and analyse the operations of similar programs in other schools and sectors to enhance the College’s sporting program, to determine areas of success and areas for improvement and to develop plans to address these,
•    Professional practices to improve teaching and performance skills,
•    Professional activity through membership of professional associations and on-going professional development, and
•    Advocate for student wellbeing.

The Sport Program Leader is responsible for:
•    Contributing to the leadership of the school through active participation in staff and middle leadership meetings,
•    Leading the co-curricular and extra-curricular sporting programs of the College,
•    Keeping up-to-date of developments within the sport area through ongoing professional reading and research, and providing for professional learning of staff in line with these developments,
•    Supervising teachers engaged in the sporting program throughout the school and provide opportunities for teachers to complete relevant coaching courses,
•    Supervising the work of the Sport School Officer who assists with the administration, organisation and co-ordination of Sport operations,
•    Induction of new teachers and ongoing professional support and pastoral care of staff in the context of the sports program within the program (or supervision of induction where it is undertaken by another experienced teacher),
•    Convening, co-ordinating and participating in relevant committees which facilitate sporting competitions for students at the College and other member schools including interschool, District, Regional, State and National representative sport opportunities,
•    Consulting with Heads of Campus and staff with all programs arounds sporting events and competitions ensuring all events are included in the College calendar, and
•    Publishing a report of sporting successes/achievements in the College newsletter.
