An exciting opportunity has arisen at St Hilary's Prep School in Godalming, for a minibus driver to join our team.

Key tasks and responsibilities

In addition to undertaking the requirements for Minibus Driver listed below, the following general duties and responsibilities will be undertaken. It should be recognised that this position brings with it the need to be flexible and the list below should not be seen as exhaustive.

General:

  • Actively promote and develop the ethos and vision of the school
  • Contribute fully to the life of the school including activities taking place out of normal school hours, by agreement
  • Support and attend all major events within St Hilary’s and appropriate functions within the wider school community
  • Establish excellent relations with parents and visitors to the school
  • Offer support and encouragement to colleagues on all matters
  • Exercise sensitive pastoral support


Key Purpose of the Role

To work as part of the Site Management team and to be one of the primary minibus drivers for the school’s home to school transport provision; transport to swimming lessons; transport for afternoon and after school fixtures; also including routine safety checks on the vehicle.

Principal Duties

Under the direction of the Site Manager, the Minibus Driver’s principal duties include:-

  • Using one of the School’s minibuses, operating one of the school’s bus routes, collecting children from given points along the route and delivering them to school in the mornings.
  • Shuttling children to and from the swimming pool once or twice a week for their weekly swimming lessons
  • Being available to drive for fixtures in the afternoons
  • Ensuring the minibus is kept clean and in good condition, including, but not restricted to:
  • Regular cleaning of the bus, both inside and out
  • Ensuring signs inside the bus are properly attached and in good condition
  • Regular visual inspection/checking of tyres, lights, oil, water, fuel
  • Ensuring that any additional work required is communicated immediately to the Site Manager
  • Adhere to all School policies including Health and Safety guidelines
  • To liaise directly with parents as necessary
  • By mutual consent, during holiday periods, perform maintenance duties within the school as requested by the Site Manager/Business Manager.


The successful candidate will have a clean driving licence with a D1 category.

The post holder may be requested to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. The particular duties and responsibilities may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility.

The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the Job holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead or the Headteacher.
