Job overview

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a committed individual to join The Enhanced Resource Base at Saint Benedict Catholic Voluntary Academy, part of the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust.

We are looking to appoint a qualified and experienced Mobility and Habilitation Officer or an appropriately experienced candidate willing to undertake the ‘Graduate Diploma in Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight (Children and Young People)’ or equivalent qualification, to work with young people with visual impairment; promoting and developing independent travel and life skills and preparing them for adulthood, empowering these students to be independent.

Saint Benedict Catholic Voluntary Academy is a mainstream Secondary School with an Enhanced Resource Base which supports students with a vision impairment and/or physical disability to access mainstream education. As part of this role, work would also be carried out at the Markeaton Primary School Enhanced Resource Base for children with Vision Impairment and central Nursery in Derby.

About You:

A thorough understanding of the impact of visual impairment is essential, along with high expectations of children and young people with visual impairment. You will work closely with families and settings, and work will be carried out in a range of environments, including homes, education settings and the wider community. You will work with very young children through to teenagers.
