The Judd School is a high performing boys’ grammar school which is enriched by a mixed sixth form. Our 2015 Ofsted Report deemed us to be Outstanding in all areas. We are seeking to appoint two knowledgeable and enthusiastic Modern Languages teachers, specialists in French and/or German, who may be NQTs or established teachers, to support the unique identity of our school.
Contrary to national trends, languages are a very popular option at Judd, with many boys opting for both German and French at GCSE and A Level. Currently, all students must study French or German at GCSE, while 85 students study both languages. At A level, 50 students take modern languages.
Both departments are well resourced and contribute to the rich extra-curricular life of the school through: the well-established Year 10 German exchange (this year it will be our 45th!), the Year 12 work experience programme and our biennial Year 11-13 Christmas market trip. The French department also engages in an annual French exchange as well as contributing to a variety of clubs and activities including the French Film Club.
This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and innovative teacher able to inspire all our current students, as for the first time all students will be studying German alongside French and Latin in Year 7. Introduction
The Judd School maintains a long tradition of academic excellence and has exceptional expectations for all its students. Above all, it has a reputation for being a very caring and happy community. History
The Skinners’ Company, out of funds provided by the Sir Andrew Judd Foundation, founded the Sir Andrew Judd's Commercial School in 1888 in East Street, Tonbridge. The school moved to its present site in 1896 and became known as The Judd School in 1925. Under the 1944 Education Act the School became the first Voluntary- Aided Grammar School. Today it still has close links with the Skinners’ Company whose members make up a significant proportion of the Governing Body.
Admissions
The Judd School is a selective Voluntary-Aided Grammar School with approximately 900 boys in Years 7-11. There are around 500 students in the Sixth Form, which includes around 150 girls on average. A key enriching facet of the school is its openness to children from all parts of West Kent and beyond. Admissions are based on ranked 11+ score, with 157 places for 'Inner' area students and 23 for 'Outer' area (see website for further details).
