Job overview

MPR with SEN allowance

Are you looking for a challenge?  Our intention is to transform the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds!

Newlands Academy is a challenging but extremely rewarding, newly purpose-built special academy for students aged 11-16 who have social, emotional and mental health needs and is part of Academies Enterprise Trust’s network of 64 primary, special and secondary academies. The Academy is based in Southwark, London and currently has 44 students on roll.

We have 5 special academies based in Essex, London, Gloucestershire and Surrey and thirteen specialist provisions attached to our mainstream academies. All of our special academies are rated ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

This is an exciting opportunity for a SEN Teacher to join us who is looking to teach across Media and ICT ideally.  This is a fixed term post initially for one year.

Our staff have benefited from our collaborative work with our other AET cluster of schools and we will challenge and support you with your career goals while you are part of the ‘Newlands Academy family’.

You will:

  • Be a qualified teacher with the ability to inspire a passion for Media Studies and ICT
  • Have experience of working with young people ideally with SEN needs.
  • Be robust, resilient and take a pride in helping students who can sometimes find school life challenging.
  • Be flexible, positive and have a ‘can do’ attitude.

We can offer you:

  • A positive, community driven school where high staff morale and low staff turnover have contributed to the rapid improvements in attainment and progress.
  • Happy, enthusiastic and well behaved children
  • A leadership team who welcome fresh ideas, and see the retention of staff as a high priority.
  • Well supported teachers who are committed to driving high standards

Our school ethos can be summed up by our five key principles.

  • We are a caring and accepting community where everyone’s voice is valued
  • We see potential in all our students and offer them a fresh start
  • The students’ learning and emotional needs are at the centre of every decision we make
  • We give students time and space to gain an understanding of their own identity; we strive to nurture, educate and empower them through to adulthood
  • We work in the academy with humour, justice, compassion and forgiveness.  We understand that all members of the community can make mistakes and that we learn from each other

AET believes that each and every child is inspired to choose a remarkable life.  Our mission is to gather and motivate inspirational people committed to delivering an excellent education that launches children into remarkable lives.

Our values are:

  • Be unusually brave
  • Discover what’s possible
  • Push the limits
  • Be big-hearted

We offer:

  • Excellent career prospects across the network, with a culture of looking to promote from within
  • Access to CPD to enable you to grow and develop in your role
  • An annual season ticket loan (where applicable)
  • Teachers' Pension or Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Something we take very seriously is staff WELLBEING. That’s why we have partnered up with BHSF to provide support and employee benefits, such as a health cash plan scheme to support healthcare, discounted gym membership and a employee assistance programme
  • A generous annual leave allowance
  • The opportunity to use Google Suite, which allows you to do your best work, all in one suite
  • Free car parking (where applicable)
  • Subsidised or free lunch (where applicable)

This position is required to commence as soon as possible and interviews will be held as and when convenient.

Closing date: Monday 22 April 2019
