Job overview

King Edward's School is seeking to appoint a proactive and highly organised Music Administrator from September 2018.

Music is strong at King Edward’s School (KES), in the classroom and beyond. A close partnership with King Edward VI High School for Girls (KEHS) makes possible work of large scale and high ambition. The 98-strong KES/KEHS Symphony Orchestra regularly programmes major works of the symphonic repertoire. A fifth of the school sings with KES Choir, 160 at last count, and more still sing with the KES/KEHS Choral Society. There are eight major weekly-rehearsing ensembles, as well as wind and swing bands, and numerous string quartets, piano trios, and wind and piano quintets. There are three full-time staff in the department, who both teach classroom music and deliver extra-curricular music.

We give about 30 public concerts each year, and 5000 people hear us play. Our main performance venue is our own Ruddock Hall, a 450-seat concert hall with Steinway model ‘D’ and superb acoustics. We regularly work in Birmingham Cathedral and Symphony Hall, Birmingham.

The Music Administrator reports to the Director of Music. They will also co-operate with the Second Master, the Director of Music at KEHS, the Executive Assistant to the Chief Master, and staff of the Ruddock Hall.

The role is a part time term time only position from 1st September 2018. The successful candidate will work 28.75 hours per week, 5 days a week plus 6 days in the holidays. Some flexibility is expected, and time off in lieu will be offered. The position has been evaluated at Grade 3, SCP 6 on the Support Staff salary scale, which equates to an actual salary of £11,755 per annum.

To apply for this role, forward a completed application form (available for download at www.kes.org.uk/jobs) and a covering letter addressed to Dr. Martin Leigh, Director of Music by email to: recruitment@kes.org.uk.

The deadline for applications is Monday 11 June 2018 (noon).

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 19 June 2018.

If you have any queries about the role or would like to discuss it in more detail, please contact Dr. Martin Leigh, Director of Music, by email: music@kes.org.uk

King Edward's School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check. A copy of the School’s Recruitment, Selection and Disclosure Policy is available on the School website.
