Job summary

A unique opportunity to run an independent charitable music school in London.  This music leadership role would suit a skilled creative individual who is passionate about nurturing children's musical learning through lessons, workshops, special projects and through other art forms.

Our children thrive on Music House's flexible, caring ethos to nurture and strengthen skills through music.  Located in west London the new candidate will help to take Music House for Children into a new chapter from it's early beginnings in 1994.

This mainly term-time position would suit a qualified music leader  who has delivered  and supported early childhood music, workshops and multi-arts activities, and experience in supporting children and young people with SEND.

During term-time we provide music lessons, workshops and performance opportunities for children and families. Although based in Shepherds Bush we reach homes and nursery settings across London. We provide training for educators, musicians and people working with additional needs.  All our music educators are freelance and qualified in their area of specialism.

Our provision is funded by three strands; direct payment and funding for special projects. We are not core funded which means that all income streams sustain our offer, costs and overheads. 

The Music Leader

This unique new role will help to sustain, develop and create new, exciting opportunities ahead for our children, families and educators. The music leader will  fully supported by the  Founder & Director and Financial Manager.

What will the role include? 

Continue with planning and delivery of music lessons, holiday activities and special projects and planning and programming, and working alongside our co-ordinator. Occasional teaching will be part of the role  to enable a truly integrated role working with children and educators.

Lead the development and planning of group lessons for young children, primary ages and SEND children.

Assist with the continued development of training courses in early childhood music.

Implement and highlight Music House for Children’s vision.

Lead and mentor our freelance and core team.

Share and be committed to Music House for Children’s core values and model the overarching leadership competencies in all areas of work.

Liaise with the core and freelance team. You will help to maintain our network of skilled practitioners, brainstorm ideas and strategies to enhance Music House for Children’s profile in the sector.

Do you have what it takes!?

 Do you have a vision for accessible music for children?

Are you an outstanding, skilled music educator with knowledge/experience of early years music?

Do you have experience of leadership?

Do you understand how children learn including those with SEND?

Do you have the requisite skills for the position?

Do you have the ability to be creative, flexible and manage deadlines?

Do you have significant knowledge in educational music repertoire, planning and programming.

Are you computer literate (AppleMac), and have an understanding of or experience in digital media, social media, promotion and development in all areas?

Do you have an understanding or experience in music recording e.g. Sibelius, Garageband, Logic/other?

Are you an excellent communicator?

Are you confident at interviewing freelance educators?

Understand Safeguarding, Health and Safety? 

Are you good at working under pressure?
