Job overview

The International British School of Bucharest is seeking to appoint an Music Teacher to teach across the school curriculum, to start 21 August, 2021.

The International British School of Bucharest is an AoBSO accredited school, with COBIS and CIS accreditation, last inspected by ISI in March 2018, and is a school rated Good-Outstanding.

Class sizes are small, allowing for a high degree of teacher-student contact time and personal support. The school has a 65% Romanian, 35% international mix, with around 150 students in the primary school and 200 students in the secondary school. The teaching environment is personalised and friendly, with many successful programmes set up to support and extend students at both ends of the spectrum. Behaviour is excellent with little more for teachers to deal with other than minor low level disruption.

The staff environment is welcoming and supportive, with groups of staff regularly attending Wednesday Quiz Night and the traditional end of week Friday staff social. Staff also regularly head away on the weekends together and during school holidays exploring one of the many beautiful old Germanic-styled towns scattered across the Carpathian mountains, skiing in the winter, visiting the black sea coast in the summer, and taking the opportunity to use the low cost airlines to visit Greece, Italy, Turkey, and many other countries a short flight way.

Staff turnover is therefore very low at IBSB, with no staff leaving the secondary school this year (our current music teacher will be going on maternity leave), with only two moving on from primary. As another indication of the working environment, the average contract term at IBSB is 7 years, with many staff having brought apartments and houses, owing to the comfortable lifestyle offered in Romania, a country with 4 seasons, mountains, a beautiful coastline, and the ability to save a large portion of your monthly salary.

The successful candidate must have an advanced level of English, be an outstanding music teacher, passionate about teaching music, and able to teach by demonstration, ideally with a minimum of two musical instruments, with strong classroom management skills, and a minimum of 3 years' experience teaching the National Curriculum of England.

Requirements:

Positive outlook on life Good communication skills

Evidence of outstanding teaching in music

The ability to teach 2 musical instruments

Evidence of outstanding live performance

Minimum 3 years teaching the National Curriculum of England

Advanced English speaker

UK/EU passport holder [This is essential]

Recognised teaching qualification

3 positive references from pervious schools

Additional requirements sort, but not essential:

Previous experience teaching in international schools

Terms and Conditions of the appointment:

This is a 1 year contract to cover our current music teacher who will be on maternity leave, offering a competitive compensation and benefits package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

- Internationally competitive salary

- Accommodation Allowance

- Return flight allowance

- Relocation allowance

- Private Medical Cover

All applications to be forwarded to recruitment@ibsb.ro.

IBSB, as a BSO Accredited COBIS school, follows safer recruitment procedures requiring all applicants to provide a clear DBS/police check.
