 MUSIC TEACHER—From September 2018

Required from September 2018, an enthusiastic, teacher of Music to join a well-established and successful department. We require a minimum of 0.6, but can provide up to full time for the right candidate.

The Park Community School is an 11-16 mixed comprehensive Co-operative Trust Foundation School. Over the last 10 years it has benefited from an extensive building programme developing an effective learning environment set in extensive parkland on the outskirts of the town.

This is a particularly interesting and rewarding time for you to join us: we shall provide every possible opportunity for your professional development and future career.

Music is a strong and key department within our School. The department consists of a full time Head of Department and is based in two newly refurbished teaching spaces.

Music is taught to all students and abilities in years 7 & 8 and is a popular choice as part of our mini options into Year 9 with two GCSE groups currently studying music. Outside the curriculum, music plays a large part in our enrichment schemes with several opportunities during the year for students to perform. Recent highlights have been our Christmas and summer music concerts, winning a school choir competition and performing in Exeter cathedral, on two occasions, performing for the Barnstaple Town lights Christmas switch on. We also host the North Devon Music Centre and our students make up groups and ensembles across the county., with success continuing beyond year 11 to university.

We offer a wide range of music peri-lessons and the student uptake for making music is high.

This is a great opportunity for new entrants or experienced colleagues to join a dynamic and supportive department.

We are seeking a colleague to deliver music to 0.6 FTE, however, for the right candidate, we can offer a full time contract. Additional responsibilities will include general cover, team teaching within music, music equipment preparation and servicing and general support for the department. Any offer would be discussed and agreed at interview.

The North Devon countryside is outstandingly beautiful. The coast varies from wild cliffs to the magnificent surfing beaches of Saunton, Croyde, Woolacombe and Westward Ho! Exmoor National Park lies just to the north and Dartmoor to the south. These natural features form the basis of the tourist industry in the area.

The school is very pleasantly situated, overlooking the River Taw, its estuary and the town of Barnstaple, with its beautiful views of the surrounding Devon countryside.

About The Park Community School

Nestled close to the beautiful North Devon coast and at the edge of Exmoor, The Park Community School is one of two 11-16 comprehensive schools in Barnstaple.  Park was opened in 1972 following the re-organisation of selective education in the town; however, the origins of the school date back to 1910, with the site housing both the Boys and Girls grammar schools.  Many elements of the original buildings remain and these help to link the school to its proud and strong history.

The school currently educates 1472 students, mainly from the town of Barnstaple and outlying villages.  In recent years, the popularity of the school has meant that the geographical catchment has increased, with many students now travelling some distance to join us. Most year groups are currently oversubscribed.

The school is a founding member of The Tarka Learning Partnership (TLP), an academy trust with a vision to empower young people in North Devon through learning. The Trust includes Park’s main feeder primary schools - Eden Park Academy, Sticklepath Community Primary Academy, Landkey Community Primary Academy, Roundswell Community Primary Academy, Newport Community School Primary Academy, Fremington Primary School along with North Molton Primary School. TLP also includes the Devon Primary SCITT, a partner dedicated to primary school teacher training.

TLP supports Park and ensures academic rigour, collaboration and the further development of teaching and learning. Park also has strategic alliances with the North Devon Academic Board, and is a member of South West Institute for Teaching (SWIFT) and the North Devon Teaching School Alliance. This reflects a key focus of our vision and governance to ensure continual school development.
