Job overview

We are looking for a Music Teacher in a school which offers excellent opportunities for professional development. The new post-holder will be an enthusiastic Musician who is a strong classroom practitioner with a commitment to achieving the highest standards both academically and in terms of musical engagement. The school is part of a Trust which places a very strong emphasis on Music and has established routines for whole school singing and for ‘wider opportunities’-style instrumental teaching.

The school’s ethos statement encourages all students to recognise their gifts and use them in services of others; to be reflective in noticing areas of improvement and humble in accepting support; finally, to engage fully and stretch. Music is at the heart of this ethos because of the model it offers of individual gifts being developed and offered joyously – often in consort with others! We therefore encourage music as an integrated part of the life of our school communities. All students have singing lessons in years 7 and 8, and sing in assemblies together.  This is maintained through termly communion services in the upper years. There are also less formal performance platforms ranging from Twyford’s Acoustic Café (bands and vocalists playing at lunchtime in the café) to more formal Popular and Classical Music Competitions and an exuberant House Music Competition. All students are also encouraged to take up a musical instrument and both schools have a team of peripatetic teachers to make this a possibility. At Twyford music tuition is offered in a wide range of instruments in groups, pairs or individual lessons as part of the extra-curricular offer. Music is also used to encourage confidence and pride in performance – with students playing in all assemblies as well as in concerts and competitions. This has also helped the school build a culture of attentive and appreciative listening.

• 2018 GCSE results: 50.8% 9-4; 40% 9-5 and 28.8% 9-7.

• 2018 A Level results: 83% A*-E; 50% A*-C; 17% A*-A.

This role is suitable for NQT and RQT applicants. The new post-holder will be joining us at a time of growth and the organisation therefore offers good promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of our schools.
