Secondary Teacher Position
The Kuala Lumpur Alice Smith School (KLASS) is fully accredited as a British School Overseas by the Department for Education in London, receiving an ‘Excellent’ grade from its recent inspection. Our school has an established reputation for excellence, and as a not-for-profit educational foundation, all resources are focused on the development and well-being of students. Located on two sites in Kuala Lumpur with excellent facilities, it has a total student population of approximately 1,600 and caters for the full age range from 3 to 18 years.
A KLASS teacher is an inspiring, innovative, high achieving professional with a strong track record of teaching success, possessing drive, energy and enthusiasm in abundance. Our teachers are confident, caring, helpful and supportive of students, colleagues and parents. They have the ability and determination to attain and maintain very high educational standards, based on action research and professional reading. They have the capacity and dedication to keep students at the centre of all they do, raising students’ standards of attainment and the breadth and scope of students’ achievement to the very highest levels internationally. They are highly computer literate and instinctively use a broad range of learning technologies to impact on learning and teaching.
At Alice Smith you will be encouraged and nurtured to be the best teacher you can be through professional development, peer to peer review, monitoring and evaluation and personal study. This is truly a forward thinking and innovative environment in which to work and learn.
We have a thriving and well established music programme and are seeking to employ an outstanding teacher and musician, who is fully committed to all areas of the musical life of the school both within and outside of the classroom. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a busy schedule of internal events, and external festivals and concerts throughout the year. With a growing music programme featuring a 75 piece orchestra, chamber orchestra, choirs, concert band and big band, we are looking for someone who can take a leading role on certain aspects of this, and also find ways of refining and developing the existing programme. The department is well resourced, and is supported by a full time administrator and technician.
Our Key Stage 3 curriculum is modelled around an ensemble based instrumental wind band programme, and therefore experience of teaching these instruments and the ability to lead and direct ensembles would be highly desirable. At Key Stage 4 and 5, we currently offer the Music Edexcel syllabus and have the potential to deliver Music Technology.
The ability to offer a second subject to at least Key Stage 3 is advantageous. Please specify in your application what subject this might be and to what level.
Please address all of these aspects in your letter of application. In addition, please ensure that your CV and letter clearly show how you meet the job description and person specification for this role.
The KLASS benefits package includes a highly competitive salary, a generous contribution towards housing, excellent medical insurance, contract renewal incentives, relocation flights and allowances and free school places for dependent children.
