We are now recruiting for the following position:

Music Teacher

Responsibilities

1. Planning

(a) Plan teaching to achieve progression in children’s learning.

(b) Identify clear teaching and learning objectives and specify how they will be taught and assessed.

(c) Set tasks, including homework, which challenge children and ensure a high level of interest;

(d) Set appropriate and demanding expectations for children’s learning, motivation and presentation of work.

(e) Set clear targets building on prior attainment.

(f) Design Individual Education Plans (IEPs) including the requirements of the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice when needed.

(g) Make effective use of assessment information when planning lessons.

(h) Take account of children’s needs by providing structured learning opportunities which develop the areas of learning identified in national, local and school policies.

(i) Plan opportunities to contribute to children’s Music knowledge and to their personal, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

(j) Assist with school productions and concerts throughout the year.

(k) Ensure the efficient and effective deployment of classroom support, e.g. Teaching and Learning Assistants.

(l) Contribute to the Music Department Development Plan.

(m) Ensure the effective scheduling of peripatetic lessons and the recruitment of excellent instrument and singing teachers

(n) Ensure a wide range of high quality extra - curricular activities are available to children including ensembles, choirs and peripatetic lessons

(o) Provide high quality music support for assemblies

(p) Along with other members of the creative arts team organise and contribute to any concerts, displays and activities requested.

(q) Organize tea concerns and afternoon concerts to showcase ABRSM and other musical talent (is this not one for the ‘other’ role


2. Teaching and Class Management

(a) Establish and maintain a safe environment and working environment which supports learning and in which children feel secure and confident.

(b) Set high expectations for children’s behavior, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and positive and productive relationships.

(c) Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures and encourage good practice with regards to punctuality, behaviour and standards of work and homework.

(d) Provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge.

 

(e) Use a variety of teaching methods to:

(i) Structure information well, outlining content and aims and summarizing key points as the lesson progresses.

(ii) Instruct, demonstrate and give accurate, well-paced explanations using appropriate vocabulary.

(iii) Use effective questioning, listen carefully to children and pay attention to errors and misconceptions.

(iv) Match the teaching approach to the content and the children’s needs.

(f) Ensure children acquire and consolidate music knowledge, skills and understanding.

(g) Critically evaluate teaching to improve effectiveness, identifying potential performing scholars and reporting those pupils to the Director of Music/SLT.

(h) Encourage children to think and talk about their learning, develop self-control and independence, concentrate and persevere, and listen attentively.

(i) Assist potential music scholars with appropriate preparation.


3. Professional Requirements, Standards & Quality Assurance

a) Display enthusiasm, understanding and commitment to ensure the children’s experiences are positive and underpin their educational lives.

b) Attend and contribute purposefully to the life of the school through effective participation in Morning Briefings, Staff Meetings, Departmental Meetings and through the use of the management systems necessary to coordinate the management of the school.

c) Attend school events and functions as required

d) Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.

e) Behave and dress in an appropriately professional manner and set a good example through personal presentation and personal and professional conduct;

f) Build effective and professional working relationships with children, staff, parents and visitors.

g) Contribute to the school’s Development Plan.

h) Co-operate closely with colleagues in the delivery of the curriculum.

i) Endeavour to give every child the opportunity to reach their potential and meet high expectations.

j) Have a working knowledge of teacher’s professional duties and legal liabilities.

k) Have good spoken and written communication skills.

l) Keep parents appropriately informed about the curriculum.

m) Liaise effectively with parents, Advisors and Directors as necessary.

n) Operate at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school;

o) Research and avail oneself of training and development opportunities and regularly attend Continuous Professional Development (CPD) sessions, taking responsibility for their own professional development and duties in relation to school policies and practices.

p) Support the aims, ethos and purpose of the school and ensure the school achieves these effectively.

q) Take part in the school’s annual appraisal programme.

r) In addition, carry out other duties as reasonably required by the Head.


Application/Selection Process:

The closing date for application is February 28th, 2022, but we reserve the right to appoint early for the right candidate. First-round interviews will take place virtually with the Head of Secondary/Primary, while the shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the Head of Secondary and the Principal.
