Job overview

Music Teacher
Location: Kettering Buccleuch Academy, Kettering
Salary: ULT Pay Structure
Closing Date: Tuesday 21 May 2019
Interviews: May 2019

Since becoming an academy in September 2009, Kettering Buccleuch Academy has seen many exciting changes. We are an all-through academy catering for students aged 4-18. We moved into our new, purpose-built building in January 2013. Under recent new leadership, the academy continues to go from strength to strength, with happy and motivated staff, a supportive culture and plenty of opportunities for personal growth with our excellent staff CPD offer. We offer a range of benefits including United Rewards, covering lifestyle and retail benefits including childcare vouchers, a car lease scheme, cycle to work etc., subsidised meals and an on-site gym which is free for all staff to use.

The role

Due to the ever-growing popularity of our school, we seek a motivated, passionate and committed Music teacher to join us from September 2019 in order to promote the highest achievement possible for our students.  The music department at Kettering Buccleuch Academy is at the beginning of a very exciting journey of development and expansion. Counter to the national trend, our exam groups are getting bigger each year, and we currently have two full groups in our year 9 and 10 cohorts. Having recently appointed a new Head of Music and performing arts technician, we are now looking for the right music teacher to join our enthusiastic and highly creative department, and to complete our team.

Our music department is very blessed with its physical resources: As well as a large collection of orchestral and pop instruments, we have a class set of keyboards, djembe drums and ukuleles, and also a full set of steel pan drums. Our three main classrooms are varied and suitable for different activities, and are complimented by 5 purpose built practice room spaces, each with instruments.  We have a fully equipped recording studio, as well as two mac suites with Logic Pro and Sibelius 7. The technology in the theatre is also of a high standard and we have a dedicated audio-visual technician, meaning performances can be produced to a very good level, and enhanced effectively by lighting and visuals.

A number of well attended enrichment activities already take place, including our newly formed Stage School of over 75 students and Show Band, but we are always keen to expand this provision for our students. Students take part in several performances each year - both inside and outside of the Academy- which includes one full-scale production. We’re highly supported by our United Learning Performing Arts lead who organises an annual music event for all schools in the group.

About You

You will have Qualified Teacher Status. Whether as an NQT or a more experienced teacher, you’ll be an inspiring practitioner with the ability to achieve success within a secondary school setting. You have the ability to deliver ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’ lessons.  You will have good interpersonal skills, sound behaviour management skills and have the highest expectations of yourself and our students.

A pianist with music technology experience would be desirable.

United Learning

Kettering Buccleuch Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
