Job overview

We are seeking a Music Teacher to join our thriving Music Department. A passion for teaching music and the ability to inspire and enthuse pupils is essential. Moulsford has a very strong musical tradition with large numbers of pupils learning instruments, and taking part in choirs, orchestras and ensembles.

The successful candidate will work with children from Pre-School to Year 8 under the guidance of the Director of Music. You will be involved in School concerts and performances, particularly in EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

This position may suit an Early Careers Teacher.

Moulsford is an independent preparatory school for 380 pupils, aged 3 to 13, situated on an idyllic 30-acre site on the banks of the River Thames, near Wallingford in South Oxfordshire. This is an exciting opportunity to join Moulsford as we become co-educational from Pre-School to Year 2 in September 2023. We remain all-boys from Years 3 to 8.

The School recognises the importance of creating the right work/life balance, of nurturing and developing staff, and creating a community.

Moulsford is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Offers of appointment are subject to the completion of pre-employment checks including an Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

Moulsford is a thriving, independent day and boarding school of 380 pupils near Wallingford in South Oxfordshire, set in tranquil and picturesque grounds on the banks of the River Thames.

From September 2023, Moulsford Pre-Prep (Pre-School to Year 2) will become co-educational, giving girls of pre-prep age the opportunity to benefit from a Moulsford experience. The Prep School (Years 3 - 8) will continue to deliver an outstanding all-boys education.

A Moulsford education is directly relevant for life in the 21st century, instilling in the children a blend of academic rigour and life  skills which gives them the platform and confidence to thrive at their  senior schools, universities, the workplace, and personal lives.

Rated as ‘Excellent’ in all categories in its recent March 2022 ISI inspection, Moulsford offers an outstanding education with a focus on  providing exceptional pastoral care.  Kindness, compassion and community are at the centre of all that we do.

Great emphasis is also placed on the extra-curricular side of School life, with the range of activities for boys having been significantly enhanced from September 2017; Sport, Music, Art, Drama and river-based activities play a prominent role in the boys’ timetable. Sport at Moulsford is particularly strong and candidates must be “in-tune” with the School’s extra-curricular ethos.

There are currently 380 boys at the School. Moulsford is predominantly a day school, but has a boarding house for up to 35 boys; mainly in Years 6, 7 and 8. The School week runs from Monday to Friday, and there are also a number of sports fixtures which take place on Saturdays. There is neither Saturday School nor boarding on Friday night or at the weekend.

From Moulsford, the boys go on to a wide variety of senior schools via Common Entrance or Scholarship at 13+. These include: Abingdon, Radley, Marlborough, Wellington, Magdalen College School (Oxford), Eton, St Edward’s (Oxford), Pangbourne, Harrow, Shiplake, and The Oratory.

The Headmaster is Ben Beardmore-Gray who took up post in September 2014. Ben was previously Headmaster of Mowden Hall (Northumberland), Deputy Head of Farleigh (Hampshire), and started his teaching career at Ludgrove (Berkshire).
