Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Primary Music Teacher (experience in teaching drama and/or dance an advantage). You will be responsible for teaching students from age 3 - 12 years (PreK to Grade 7). We’ll look to you to promote high expectations for our students, designing learning activities that are aligned to our school’s Primary Music/Performing Arts curriculum and creating a learning culture where there are no limits to what can be achieved. You will foster an environment of respect within the classroom, facilitating learning through questioning and discussion. 

About you 

Able to adapt quickly to our fast-paced international environment, you will possess a university degree, a recognised teaching qualification, and considerable teaching experience. Committed and creative, you will be reflective on your own teaching and student outcomes, seeking out and implementing new ideas and innovative methods to raise the school’s level of achievement. Keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, you will be a fitting ambassador for the school. You will communicate with confidence across diverse audiences and situations, using your expertise to build strong relationships with parents and students. 

You will also be able to meet visa-related restrictions for the United States of America (The Americas Region) including having British and/or American Citizenship or having authorization to work in the United States. If you are a British Citizen you must have PGCE and/or QTS.The British International School Houston is a successful, growing school with a highly committed and motivated team of teaching professionals at it's heart. As a result, we are looking for Teachers who can lead colleagues to make full use of our facility, especially our wonderful, new performing arts facilities, by being committed to a modern, constructivist, inquiry-based and personalised approach to learning that inspires and engages students. In line with this, we would expect you to have experience with concept-driven, inquiry-based curricula and be able to speak passionately about the impact on student engagement and learning. 

An ideal opportunity for an experienced Primary specialist Music Teacher experience or a passion for a swim program an advantage. You will have a growth mindset, be able to deal with ambiguity and be motivated by participating fully in all aspects of school life. Ideally you should have experience with modern international curricula. You will also be excited about our collaboration with Juilliard and have creative ideas on how to best use this to maximise the benefit to our students and community.
