The Role

We are looking to appoint a Music Teacher to:

  1. Teach Music to our Primary and Secondary classes (Year 1 – Year 9)
  2. Support the school in the production of musical and drama performances throughout the year
  3. Teach private peripatetic lessons
  4. Work closely and collaborate with our two private peripatetic teachers
  5. Put music at the heart of the school.

We are looking for someone with a sense of adventure. Our hope is the successful candidate will gain a genuine sense of purpose in their life by coming to Koh Samui to work at our school. We welcome recently newly qualified teachers and will even consider supporting the successful candidate with gaining PGCEi status if required.

The School

The International School of Samui is a single form entry school with approximately 270 pupils enrolled and is Koh Samui’s oldest and most recognised fully licensed and accredited international school catering for children from 2 – 18 years of age. We thrive on a great team of teachers and support from the parent body. The School’s philosophy is that the children come first, and a strong feeling of ‘family’ is evident throughout.

The Early Years, Primary and Senior School are all located on a beautiful purpose built campus. We have spacious air-conditioned classrooms, a library, four fully equipped ICT suites, along with projectors and Apple TVs in every classroom. We have excellent facilities including a 25 metre swimming pool, sports hall, basketball court, D&T and cooking suite, dance studio, café, junior and senior common rooms, IGCSE study areas and separate science and art rooms for the primary and senior school along with dedicated playground areas for all three separate schools.

The International School of Samui is licensed by Thailand’s Ministry of Education and is a member of COBIS (Council of British International Schools) and ISAT (International Schools Association of Thailand.) We are accredited with Silver status from the Education Development Trust (formerly known as CfBT) and are a licensed international exam centre with Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). The curriculum is primarily based on the British National Curriculum, however topic based themes are also used to broaden international awareness.

Teachers at The International School of Samui are fully qualified with a recognised teaching qualification; most are native English speakers (apart from MFL teachers) and the great majority are from the UK. Familiarity with, and experience of, the British education system is essential for all applicants. All applicants must have either a Bachelor in Education or PGCE qualification (or equivalent). We can support some teachers gain their PGCEi in some specific roles within the school.

The School operates in a very competitive market and it is essential that applicants understand and accept the high standards which this imposes. Besides a normal teaching commitment, teachers contribute to an extensive program of after-school activities and are also required to attend and contribute to Staff Development Days, Open Days, Marketing events etc. In addition, a very high standard of pastoral awareness and involvement is expected of all staff.

The teaching team is cohesive with high morale and we seek strong team players to join us in all posts. A flexible approach and a willingness to adapt are essential. To work overseas is a tremendous experience in its own right; to be part of an established yet still young and ever adapting school, to share in shaping it, creating its reputation and making it a success is, we believe, an unusual and very special opportunity. If you feel you could work with us and help us achieve our aims then we would like to hear from you.

Applications by e-mail to our Human Resources Department (hrmanager@iss.ac.th) should include a letter of application, your curriculum vitae, and a photograph (head and shoulders).

PS If you wish to send an additional short introductory email to the Headmaster, please feel free to do so at head@iss.ac.th.

About International School of Samui

About the International School of Samui

ISS is a Traditional British School with British Heritage and is located on a beautiful tropical Island with fresh air, space, and tranquility; it is an idyllic location to live, work and bring up children. The school is set on a hillside in the Bophut region of Koh Samui, with outstanding facilities including an organic farm.

ISS is a non-selective school and offers an education to students aged 3 to 18 years (Nursery to Year 13) and operates waiting lists due to its commitment to being a one form, year group entry school to enable a small community school where all students and parents would be known and where quality was regarded as a key focus rather than continual growth in enrolment. The school is made up of three distinct departments of early years, primary and senior.

Our overall vision for the school is to be the premium international school of choice on Koh Samui. Our mission is to provide our students with a premium level of academic, co-curricular and pastoral provision, supported by an ethos that promotes and rewards integrity, hard work, and positive habits to give every student the opportunity to be ‘the best they can be’.

The most important, overriding thread, throughout all our policies and practice is to give every student, no matter what their starting point, the opportunity to be the best they can be. We believe that through our inclusive, personalised approach to every student, as well as our outstanding learning support and SEMH provision, we fulfill this outstandingly well.

The school follows the ubiquitous ‘British’ Curriculum and offers the Cambridge Primary, Secondary, IGCSE and A-Level programs of study with a rich mix of creativity thrown in. The school is blessed with wonderful, motivated and energetic teachers and staff who have made the school what it is today - the premier International School on Koh Samui.
