The Music department offers a full and broad range of learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom and there is the opportunity to develop and grow as a professional. We are looking for an organised, proactive and dynamic technician with genuine passion for Performing Arts to join our team.

Main responsibilities include: 

  • Checking, maintaining, replacing and storing all musical instruments both in music classrooms and the recording studio (ie computer hardware, software, studio equipment, electric and acoustic musical instruments and amplifiers).  
  • Providing sound, lighting and audio-visual technical support for school events and assemblies  
  • Supporting the teaching of Music Technology at BTEC level 
  • Liaising with full-time and instrumental teaching staff as to technical requirements 
  • Maintaining and running schedule for 1-2-1 instrument lessons 
  • Maintaining the record of stock and source replacement parts where and when required. 
  • Supporting students using the Recording Studio 
  • Sharing supervisory duties according to the school’s published rotas

Essential Experience: 

  •  Professional experience in setting up, using and maintaining sound equipment, recording equipment and musical instruments 
  • Knowledge of current generic developments in music technology

  • A passion for education, for working with young people and for making a difference 
  • Enthusiasm for Music Technology and a desire to communicate this to others

Successful candidate will also be called upon to assist with the sound reinforcement requirements of the various public events which impact upon this busy department - concerts, assemblies, the school shows and special events. 

The post is suited for innovative, organised and self-motivated music technician, looking to further their career in a supportive and inclusive school. The candidates must be able to demonstrate and evidence a strong subject knowledge and have a proven track record of raising standards.

About Riverside School

Riverside School is an outstanding, mixed, non-denominational secondary school with a sixth form. It is an academy located in Barking, Greater London (Inner London Pay Scale).

Riverside opened as a new provision in September 2013, it currently has 1500 students on roll and will eventually grow to a full capacity of 1800 students aged 11-18 by 2021. The school moved to its new £45m state-of-the-art premises in September 2017 with very large 75-95m² classrooms and impressive indoor/outdoor sports facilities.

A very strong culture of high expectations across the  school means that pupils here are encouraged to succeed. Pupils benefit from a rich  curriculum that is taught expertly by very well-trained staff. The ambition for all to  do well includes those pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), who follow the same carefully considered curriculum as their peers.

Pupils work hard and achieve well. Very clearly established routines ensure that pupils are engaged in their learning and that their work is of a consistently high  quality.
