Job overview

The position of Individuals and societies and Business Studies teacher reports to the Head of Upper & Senior School. The teacher of Individuals and societies creates a positive and supportive learning environment and develops activities so that students are able to practice in a meaningful context.

In the MYP, we expect students to thrive in ATL Skills and the classes to be based on this concept. The classes are not content-heavy but instead, help students understand the skills they need to develop. Teachers are required to have Unit Plans and Subject Overviews completed for all units prior to the start of the 2021/2022 academic year. All Unit Plans and Subject Overviews are housed in ManageBac as is our attendance, grade book and reports.

Other aspects of this position:

● A team player who can collaborate with other members of the department;

● Vertical alignment with the DP classes we offer;

● Use of resources on MYIB.

In the DP, we currently offer Business Management, Psychology and Economics. Our students would also like to take History and Geography as an option as well. Currently, Economics is taught through Pamoja and we would like to have a teacher with experience in DP Economics. The new teacher would most likely teach in both programmes.

Other aspects of this position:

● Ability to supervise an Extended Essay student;

● CAS advisor for a group of students;

● Content knowledge of the subject.

Our school received PYP, MYP & DP authorization in January of 2020 and as an IB World School, we follow no other programmes.

Requirements:

● Strong communication skills;

● Advanced problem- solving and decision-making skills;

● Proficiency in computer literacy;

● Ability to be flexible in an ever- changing world of education; ● Desirable: Experience in the MYP/DP;

Desirable: Experience with eAssessments;

● Desirable: Experience with ManageBac;

● Mandatory: Teaching experience and official recoginsed teaching credentials.

Responsibilities:

● Ability to teach MYP/DP Individuals and societies;

● Liaise with all upper and senior school teachers with regards to timetables and unit

planning;

● Collaborate on a regular basis with the Individuals and societies Department & Academic teams;

● Update ManageBac on a regular basis including unit plans and student feedback;

● Student feedback must be done on a regular basis for any assignment or task that is turned in to the teacher;

● Promote a safe working environment for students and staff; ● Encourage students to use the Learner Profile whilst in class;

● To promote the ideals and mission of the school and our three pillars, Creativity, Character and Connectivity;

● Knowledge of the MYP/DP Programmes and a belief in their functionality.

● Team player willing to become part of a diverse group of teachers and staff members.
