Job overview

National Director for Strategy and Quality Improvement
Competitive salary + benefits :: Head office Birmingham (work-base flexible)

Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) is a successful and respected not-for-profit sponsor of 36 primary and secondary academies. Our vision is for all young people to have access to the highest academic, social and practical skills required to achieve their full potential, whether going on to study at a leading university or entering the world of work. We are determined to become the Trust that makes the biggest difference, both inside and outside the classroom.

The Trust’s track record is of sustained achievement and consistent, reflective improvement, but we are never complacent about our direction of travel. Our new strategic goal is to become one of the top 20% highest-performing MATs by 2021, providing a clear conceptual focus and a practical operational framework that will enable every young person to flourish – both as learners, and future citizens.

Our new National Director for Strategy and Quality Improvement will play a key role in delivering the Trust’s medium to long-term ambitions. The successful candidate will take responsibility for driving our future growth and direction, working as part of the OAT Executive Team. Leading a small team of professionals, the post holder will also manage curriculum design, marketing and communications, data, policy and fundraising.

It’s a role to relish, with unusual levels of scope, influence and opportunity. Part of a focused, collaborative leadership team, our new National Director will be working with motivated and extremely able colleagues across academies and the Trust. The appointed candidate will model and communicate our vision of the future, ensuring quality standards are met; you will therefore need to be intellectually strong, articulate and able to influence the full range of stakeholders and partners. While you may hold Qualified Teacher Status, this is not essential; but you must be able to establish rapid and lasting credibility in every context. Highly numerate and literate, and ideally with project management experience, the strongest candidates will be distinguished by their creativity, open mind, and a relentless focus on outcomes.

About Ormiston Academies Trust

With over 40 schools – currently 32 secondary schools, six primary schools, three alternative provision schools and one special school across five OAT regions, the trust is one of the largest and longest standing trusts in the school system and is guided by our founder, Peter Murray’s belief that every child deserves the chance to thrive.

We provide pupils with the best learning opportunities in every classroom, in every school, every day. We are also committed to the learning and development that takes place outside of the classroom, and the enriching role that schools and education play in children’s lives.

Our schools are located across a diverse range of communities, each with its own unique character, strengths and challenges. OAT believes in the power of collaboration and working as one team across our schools. This collective approach is underpinned by our core values, which sit at the heart of the work across the trust. It is only through a culture of cohesion and shared endeavour, that we will deliver more for children and families.

There is much to be proud of at OAT, but the trust is not complacent and is committed to improving everything it does. Everyone who works at OAT plays a key role in our journey to both develop and deliver our strategy over the next five years.

We look for people who share our belief in the power of education to change lives for young people, and who have the intellectual, interpersonal and operational capabilities required every day to improve education at scale in a national organisation.
