Job overview

As part of our recruitment drive to appoint Newly Qualified Teachers for September 2019, we are looking to engage with committed and inspirational trainees seeking their first post as a qualified teacher, as part of an innovative and highly supportive academy team.

We want to hear from primary and secondary trainee teachers who are interested to join one of our high performing and thriving departments, with vacancies available across a wide range of subjects, phases and locations across London. Successful applicants will be added to our central talent pool, and we will share your application with academies in your preferred location as soon as relevant opportunities become available - you will only need to complete one application. Academies and our central team may also contact you directly about possible roles.

Visits to our academies are strongly encouraged for shortlisted candidates, and will be offered if you are invited to interview.

Your opportunity

As an NQT, you will follow our highly successful Harris NQT programme, training alongside other NQTs from across the Federation. This enables aspiring teachers to support and learn from each other, in the true collaborative spirit of Harris.

Our NQT induction programme, delivered through our outstanding Harris Federation Teaching School Alliance, aims to welcome new teachers and build their self-confidence in the first few weeks of their career. There is regular contact with other NQTs within and across subject areas, and a structure of support and challenge with customised professional learning sessions throughout the year.

Every NQT has a professional mentor who works with you to make sure your training and support needs are met. You will have the opportunity to observe lessons being delivered by experienced teachers. There are also a wide range of additional programmes open to NQTs through the Teaching School Alliance to help you achieve your career ambitions more quickly.

What we are looking for:

We look for talented individuals who want to be a part of transforming education in London, and helping create exceptional places of learning. We want to hear from trainee teachers who are interested to join one of our high performing and thriving departments, with vacancies available across a variety of subjects including Mathematics, English, Science, Drama, Music, History, Geography and Business, and across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 in primary.

Why work for the Harris Federation?

The Harris Federation is the leading large Multi Academy Trust in the country for both primary and secondary education, and has an unrivalled track record in raising standards and achieving success for the children in our academies. Harris is a Federation and not a chain; each academy is different, reflecting the particular aspirations and leadership style of its Principal. All of our primary and secondary academies are rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and we are recognised for transforming the life chances of the children that we educate.

The Harris Federation comprises 47 academies in and around London. Some of these are among the highest performing in the country, with many located in areas of disadvantage.

Professional development and sharing best practice are a key part of the Harris Federation success, and we can draw on this to offer you top quality training at every stage of your career path, from Beginner Teacher to Middle Leader. We will invest in you with coaching, mentoring, and can offer a wide range of training programmes, delivered by our Teaching School Alliance.

We look for talented teachers who are passionate about their subject and making a difference. You can help us transform education in London, and create exceptional places of learning.

Please note: academies may hold interviews as and when applications are received, and this job may be withdrawn at any point without notice. You will still be able to add information until the closing date, but you will not be able to submit your application. With this in mind, you are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

Harris academies are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All offers of employment are subject to an Enhanced DBS check, and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check will be completed for all applicants. In line with our commitments to safeguarding, the Harris Federation uses preferred agencies and is unable to work with any agencies where Terms of Business have not been agreed by both parties prior to an engagement.

The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit educational charity with almost 25 years of education experience in and around London. Our primary, secondary, all-through and sixth form academies have an international reputation for delivering a step change in education standards.

In joining a Harris Academy, you will be working with some of the country’s most exceptional teachers, support staff and leaders. There are frequent opportunities for internal exchange and promotion; our CPD is regularly described as Outstanding; and we have a package of staff benefits that rivals the most competitive of other professions.

Each Harris Academy is led and run by its senior leaders and has its own curriculum and way of doing things. What our Academies share, however, is a commitment to giving their children and teenagers an excellent education within a happy, caring and supportive environment.

There are Harris Academies in many different settings – inner city and suburban – but they are all within a maximum ninety minute commute from each other. This enables a highly collaborative structure, with on-call support from the Harris Federation.
