Job overview

We have a thriving nursery with children aged from two years to rising fours. Copthorne Prep's Nursery is a spacious and nurturing environment which promotes imagination, confidence and happiness. The range of nursery activities is vast. Some of our activities, such as dance, Spanish and football, are optional. Others, like swimming, forest schools, music and French, are all part of the curriculum. Amid the sea of waterproofs and wellington boots, you will find children using their imaginations, being absorbed by new experiences and generally having fun. These are the foundations on which Copthorne Prep has been built and they prepare children well for the pre-prep years.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our ‘excellent’ nursery within Copthorne Prep School. To be trained to do the same post as a Nursery Practitioner or Nursery Assistant, contributing towards a high-quality caring environment for children. This includes creating a warm, friendly and stimulating atmosphere in which the children can develop emotionally, socially and educationally through individual attention and group activities.

We are looking for a full time, 40 hours per week Nursery Apprentice on a fixed term apprenticeship for 18 months. As part of this placement you will work towards your apprenticeship qualification in EYFS, fully funded with 20% paid off the job training time.

Children are unique and every child deserves a school that is dedicated to developing individual abilities and confidence.

This ethos informs everything we do at Copthorne Prep; a flourishing independent day and boarding prep school. Set in 55 acres of West Sussex/Surrey countryside, including its own woodland, the school is located between Crawley and East Grinstead, five miles from Gatwick Airport and 30 minutes by train to London or Brighton.

Catering for boys and girls aged between 2-13 years, we believed in offering our children the very best all round education, together with a stimulating range of sports and activities. This structured approach gives every one of our children the freedom to lean and grow within a safe nurturing environment.

To achieve this, a close partnership is established between children and teachers and our class sizes remain small at around 18. Our commitment to providing exceptional pastoral care is also reflected in the strong sense of community that children enjoy at the school, coupled with a culture that encourages trust, tolerance and achievement.

Copthorne Prep is a christian based school and welcomes students from all faiths. It was founded in 1902 and is an excellent independent day school, which provides an outstanding education for our children.

The curriculum is deliberately broad and well balanced, delivered by qualified and experienced teachers who aspire to the highest standards. Our ethos develops children’s confidence and accepts that making mistakes is part of the learning process. The school provides opportunities in all areas for all children and encourages them to “be the very best they can be” at everything.

We care passionately about our pupil’s future success - it is why we encourage them to “aim high”.

Our goal? To help children reach their full potential so when they leave, they will be ready to engage with the world, wherever their lives may take them.
