Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and engaging Nursery Nurse to join our friendly, supportive team. The successful candidate will have a recognised Level 3 qualification.

The Early Years team share responsibility for the Early Years pupils during school term time (7.30 am - 6.00 pm, Mondays to Fridays, usually 35 weeks a year). The team work closely with all members of the Prep School and support children from 2.5 years old.

As a Nursery Nurse you will support the goals and objectives of the Nursery, assisting the Team in the organisation of high-quality childcare, teaching and supporting each pupil through the Early Learning Goals. You will have opportunity to deliver phonics, be part of an engaging curriculum delivery and work closely with all the Early Years Team to see the child’s development through to completion of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The aims for the Early Years are:

• to develop in pupils a sense of wonder and a love of learning

• to provide a stimulating, happy environment in which pupils will thrive

• to instil in pupils a sense of self-worth, confidence and independence

• to encourage pupils to co-operate with one another and respect one another

• to develop in pupils a sense of responsibility towards their environment

Pupils may arrive from 7.30am onwards for Breakfast Club with the formal school day beginning at 8.35am. From 8.45 am until 4.00 pm, the Nursery School pupils have a day of activities separate from the older pupils. From 3.30 pm those pupils in Nursery School remaining for the extended day will be joined by the Key Stage 1 pupils staying for after-school care, the after-school care programme continuing until 6.00 pm.

The Foundation Stage curriculum is modelled on the latest Early Years goals with its seven areas of learning.

Responsibilities of the role include:

• assisting the Head of Prep and Early Years Team with long-term planning and planning themes

• assisting with the planning and implementation of pupils’ daily programmes

• liaising with the Head Prep

• ensuring examples of work are uploaded to Learning Ladders and children’s development is shared with parents

• monitoring and evaluating the curriculum, with particular reference to the criteria of the Oxfordshire Early Years Programme, and being responsible for a group of pupils in relation to the Key Person System

• assisting with planning and implementing the Early Years before-school and after-school care programme

• keeping written observations and assessments as needed

• liaising with colleagues and pupils' parents and their representatives

• attending staff meetings

• observing the school’s Health and Safety Policy and the school’s Safeguarding Policy

• assisting with the writing of reports

The hours of work required are up to 36 hours per week.

Monday 07.30 to 18.00

Tuesday 13.30 to 18.00

Wednesday 07.30 to 13.00

Thursday 08.30 to 18.00

Friday 12.00 to 18.00

Candidates must not have been disqualified from working with children, and must not be named on the Children’s Barred List or be subject to any sanctions imposed by a regulatory body. An overseas police check may also be required.
