Occupational Therapist - New Barn School (Currently Expanding)

New Barn School is a special educational needs school, NAS accredited with an Ofsted rated 'Good' that caters for academically able autistic students with associated difficulties, including ADHD and complex needs. The majority of students will have either of Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Our dedicated staff are committed to creating a learning culture that enables the best possible outcomes for our pupils aged 7-19. 

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to support with therapy within the school. This includes ensuring that all the specified needs of individual pupils are met and to work and to school and residential staff to embed a holistic approach to occupational therapy and the sensory needs of the children and young people.

This will be achieved by;

  • Effectively promoting pupils welfare and safety at all times
  • Working with the school and residential employees to develop the sensory environment within the school and residential homes.
  • Utilising your expertise of evidence based practice, clinical assessments and intervention options as well as reasoning and intervention skills to include motor sensory cognitive/perceptual assessments.
  • Provide evidence based assessments, recommend best course of intervention and develop comprehensive transition.
  • Formulating and delivering on individual occupational therapy intervention programs to develop pupil ability in day to day living and learning.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions delivered by non-specialist employees.
  • Evaluating pupil progress, reassessing and altering intervention programs as required.
  • Participate and contribute including the preparation and presentation of reports at multi-disciplinary team meetings and reviews.
  • Work with the Head teacher to deliver an appropriate programme of professional development for all employees including quality coaching and mentoring, in line with school appraisal and performance management system and the school development plan.


This is an exciting time for New Barn School as we develop our expansion plans moving our school from 80 pupils to the ability to welcome 120.

New Barn School is part of Treehouse Educare Ltd., which consists of our school and two children’s homes. We are registered for children aged 7 - 19 and currently have 80 children on roll with development plans in place to exceed to 120. New Barn School has been awarded Autism Accreditation by The National Autistic Society, the UK’s leading charity for people on the autism spectrum and their families.

Newbarn School is a special school that caters for students with high-functioning autism and associated difficulties. All of our pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

New Barn School is a purpose-built facility with the interior designed by architects experienced in creating spaces for people on the autism spectrum. The modern building enables us to offer a broad, balanced, engaging and challenging curriculum that will provide the greatest opportunities for successful outcomes for our students.

The main building, which extends across two floors, incorporates six classrooms as well as a science room, food technology room, ICT suite, art studio, hall, intervention room, 1:1 room, first-aid room, kitchen, dining room and offices. There is also a sports hall and a separate building for vocational skills (including a music room).

We have been open since January 2017 and have received our OFSTED inspection which rated us a GOOD school in 2022. We are proud of our pupils and all that they achieve on a regular basis at Newbarn and we are excited for the future success we will experience.

We have dedicated and well-trained staff who are supported by an excellent senior leadership team and together with pupils, parents and families, aim to provide exceptional outcomes for young people.
