About Harris Primary Academy Haling Park

School summary

Harris Primary Academy Haling Park opened in September 2014 to meet the demand from local families for high-quality places in South Croydon. Our Academy is part of a Federation of Academies and Free Schools with an established track record in London. We are also one of a community of Croydon schools run by the Harris Federation that works closely together.

As a growing academy, year on year, we are able to hand-pick new teachers and support staff. In September 2016, we will welcome our next 60 Reception children and will have up to 180 children in our lovely building, with classes from Reception to year 2.

Academy ethos

Our aim is to make sure that, from the first day of their education, our pupils have a truly happy experience of school. This means teaching them to become confident learners and nurturing each child’s personality and character.

Whatever a child’s background or starting point, we want to make sure that they finish Year 6 with the academic skills, social skills and knowledge necessary to succeed. Every lesson at our school is creative and there is plenty of time for children to think, to play, to discover and wonder.

Each child is taught in the way that suits them best and we step in quickly if a change is needed. For some children, this might involve one-to-one support if they are finding something difficult and for others it could mean stretching them more to keep them interested.

Our school is relaxed and comfortable but pupils know that good behaviour is expected of them and are taught to respect each other and their teachers. They are frequently praised and rewarded for trying their best and for being kind, hard-working and well-behaved.

Our school is friendly and welcoming and we always make sure that every pupil has at least one friend.
