Job overview

We know that for some students, a busy classroom can feel like a hurdle. As our One-to-One Maths Tutor, you are the bridge. You will provide the focused, calm, and encouraging environment that allows a student to finally say, "I get it now". You won’t be working in isolation. You’ll join a vibrant department of 8 teachers who are a mix of experts and new to the profession, all backed by the incredible strategic support of our Trust’s Maths School Improvement Partners. The department has created a rich and engaging curriculum which has deep roots in teaching for understanding.  Our curriculum is differentiated by depth, ensuring all students build firm foundations, develop confidence and retain their learning.

We are seeking candidates with secure knowledge of the secondary Maths curriculum, with the ability to deliver knowledge and skills to small groups and on a one-to-one basis. With good knowledge, One-to-One tutors will rapidly accelerate students' understanding that will support them in more regular lessons. The successful applicant will put the needs of young people first, have a passion for learning, excellent interpersonal skills and will be both ICT and emotionally literate. Tutors will be required to prepare their own resources to meet the needs of the students but to also use resources where directed by the HoD or the School Improvement Partner. Whilst this role is advertised as typically part-time, there is an element of flexibility in assigning hours, to best meet the needs of the academy curriculum; this may vary through the course of the academic year, but will be discussed as part of the application process.

We welcome applications from people who:

  • hold qualified teacher status, or are a qualified HE or FE teacher;

  • are able to demonstrate a track record of effective teaching;

  • are able to demonstrate that you can work with individual pupils to progress their learning;

  • have subject specific knowledge.

This is a term-time-only position, required to start as soon as possible.

We are an 11-18 academy based just north of the large, friendly, South Yorkshire town of Doncaster.

We have been a member of the Outwood Family since 2009, and in our 2023 Ofsted inspection the academy was graded Good in all categories. The inspection noted ‘the school has a supportive and caring culture. Staff build arm and friendly relationships with pupils. Pupils achieve their full potential. Staff are proud to work at the school’.

We offer a holistic education that makes learning stimulating, engaging and enjoyable for every student.

The inspectors were equally complimentary about our sixth form provision, with a wide range of courses on offer; including A Levels, vocational qualifications and T-levels.

We have also won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, in addition to being an IQM Centre of Excellence for 3 years, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.
