Job overview

We are seeking a one-to-one Pupil Support Assistant to work part-time (25 hours; 8:00am-1:00pm; Mondays to Fridays).  This is term-time only from August 2021 which is temporary for one year in the first instance.

This an interesting and varied one-to-one role for someone who is keen to support a child to engage positively within the Early Years Preschool environmental and within small group settings, so that there is a successful induction to life in St George's for preschool year and future transitions.

We would like to hear from you if you have demonstrable experience of supporting and working with children with special educational needs. Flexibility within your week to increase your hours as our pupil’s capacity to access the curriculum increases would be of interest although not essential. We are especially open to applications from candidates who have a genuine interest in developing their proven experience of supporting the educational, personal and social support needs of a child with Down’s syndrome.

Further details and an application form are available on our website at https://www.stge.org.uk/about/vacancies/, or may be obtained from Human Resources via tel: 0131 311 8000 or email: jobs@stge.org.uk.

Closing date: noon, Monday 21st June 2021

Interview date: Week beginning 28th June 2021

Vision and values

The main vision of St George’s School for Girls is to produce women of independent mind who are equipped with the academic and life skills to succeed. The ethos is based on four values: truth, honour, freedom and courtesy. Students and staff alike are encouraged to be respectful towards one another. Pupils learn in an environment free of gender stereotypes.

St George’s nursery curriculum is based on child-led activities, involving problem-solving, creativity and role play. For the older students, the curriculum is based on GCSE and Scottish Higher and Advanced Higher examinations in eight areas: languages, maths, social studies, sciences, health and well-being, religious and moral education, expressive arts and technologies. The school also emphasises the importance of outdoor learning and physical activity as a supplement to academic learning.
