We are looking for an Outdoor Learning Coordinator to co-ordinate, develop and deliver a creative, therapeutic and engaging outdoor learning and enrichment programme that connects children and young adults with nature, promoting curiosity, independence, wellbeing and a sense of belonging.

The role will support the Foundation's Enrichment for All commitment by ensuring every child and young adult can access inclusive and meaningful experiences that develop their talents, interests, aspirations, resilience and confidence.

About the Role

You will work collaboratively with education, therapy, pastoral, residential and family support teams to provide personalised enrichment opportunities that enhance engagement, independence, life skills and overall quality of life.

You will maintain high aspirations for every child and young adult, using enrichment and outdoor learning experiences to broaden horizons, develop confidence, inspire ambition and prepare them for life within their communities.

The role will include:

  1. Planning, coordinating or delivering, assessing and evaluating outdoor learning sessions across school.

  2. Developing the outdoor learning philosophy and ethos across school.

  3. Using the current site facilities to deliver and then go on to develop the outdoors as a learning environment.

  4. Leading groups of students with SEMH difficulties and coordinate and leading staff involved in the outdoor learning.

  5. Working with a range of staff across school.

  6. Taking a leading role in the organisation of ‘holiday experiences’ and other outdoor learning events.

  7. Being responsible for outdoor learning equipment, tools and clothing.

  8. Carrying out and maintaining all risk assessments.

  9. Supervising students on visits, trips and out of school activities as required.

  10. Participating in a programme of Outdoor Education

You will uphold the Foundation's Quality of Life and Positive Behaviour Support ethos, promoting the Foundation's values of belonging, respect, kindness, collaboration, integrity and inclusion while supporting positive relationships, emotional wellbeing and personal development.

About You

  1. You will be passionate about outdoor learning and working with children and young people, with the ability to create safe, engaging and meaningful experiences that build confidence, resilience and independence.

  2. Organised, proactive and positive, you will have strong leadership and behaviour management skills and ideally experience of working with young people with SEMH needs. You will understand the positive contribution outdoor learning can make to wellbeing, engagement, personal development and preparation for life.

  3. You may already hold relevant outdoor education qualifications, such as Duke of Edinburgh, Lowland Leader, Mountain Leader or Forest Schools, or be willing to undertake further training.
