Outdoor Learning Coordinator – Hedgeway

 

Location: Pilning, Bristol, BS35 4JN

Salary:  £20,598 - £32,134 

Hours: 40 hours per week

Putting students’ needs first, because they know that once they understand the young people’s personal needs and individual learning styles they can provide the right level of support to enable them to learn more effectively and achieve their full potential. Working with students to prepare them for adulthood, whether that be further education, training or employment. 

 

 

The main purpose of the role:

 

As our Outdoor Learning Coordinator, you will have a passion for Outdoor Learning and will be an excellent team player. You should able to work independently but also collaboratively with colleagues.

 

The role will involve developing and delivering a scheme of work for Outdoor Learning and environmental sustainability on our Future Skills programme but also collaborative work with subject teachers to deliver outdoor sessions linked to subjects across the curriculum.

 

You will provide universal and targeted support for students between KS2 – KS5. This will involve planning, co-ordinating and delivering achievement opportunities which will work within the vision and values of The Aurora Group.

 

You will provide support for the pupils and teachers – working collaboratively in the development of the outdoor education programme.

 

Key duties:

 

  • Developing and planning a dynamic, engaging and holistic outdoor learning curriculum that can be differentiated according to the age, stage and the specific needs of our students. 
  • Creating schemes of work that integrate horticulture, crop planning and organic growing, forest gardening, sustainable construction and infrastructure development, practical sustainability and other relevant outdoor learning activities.
  • Collaborating with teachers and other support staff to identify and create cross-curricular opportunities for outdoor learning.
  • Take lead on the School’s Eco-Schools Award group and accreditation.
  • Deliver Land-based units and relevant vocational qualifications as part of the schools BTEC vocational Award qualification.
  • Implementing and facilitating outdoor learning experiences that promote independence, creativity, and social interaction.
  • Providing guidance and support to teachers in incorporating outdoor learning opportunities and Eco-Schools links into their planning
  • Assessing and monitoring student progress in outdoor learning, providing feedback and adapting teaching strategies as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

 

  • Experience of working with children or young people with an Autistic Spectrum Condition and SEMH
  • Experience or knowledge of delivering provision through the EHCP process
  • Horticultural, gardening or permaculture design experience, with a focus on organic and sustainable growing methods.
  • Ability to create outdoor learning sessions around seasonal planning,
  • Plan, resource and deliver outdoor learning sessions with differentiated learning
  • Understanding of links between PSHE and outdoor learning
  • Ability to document and evaluate sessions
  • Previous experience of working with or teaching pupils in KS2 to KS5
  • Previous experience of working in an outdoor Learning context
