TITLE OF POST: P.E. Teacher
SALARY: Rose Hill Scale
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To teach pupils within the school and to carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the Head. To teach P.E., Games and Swimming in accordance with the aims of the school so that the children:
develop an ability to perform with others and establish the values of teamwork;
achieve enjoyment and satisfaction;
develop a sense of fair play and good sportsmanship;
acquire techniques and skills in the various sport
develop awareness of personal health & fitness levels;
realise their full sporting potential.
RELATIONSHIPS
The postholder is responsible to the Head and the Deputy Head. The postholder is responsible for the supervision and organisation of any support staff involved in the teaching of PE and Games
TEACHING: Co-ordinate the full delivery of girls’ games programme. Deliver games sessions to Years 3-8. To coach, organisation, transport teams for the following girls’ games (depending on the season). Hockey, Football, Cricket and Athletics.
Duties will include being in charge of the preparation, coaching, refereeing/umpiring of some or all of the above main sports, the teams range from U8s – U13s
Teach PE and swimming to children from Nursery (age 3) to Year 8
Be conversant with all relevant School policies and procedures and accept shared responsibility with all Rose Hill School staff for Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and Data Protection.
Deliver well planned and structured games, PE and Swimming lessons
Lead and run teams in each sport, including compiling team lists, accompanying to matches and writing and uploading match reports
Lead and run co-curricular clubs for PrePrep and Prep school children.
Supervise changing rooms as required
Maintain records as required by Head of Department
Write end of term reports
Establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues
Attend appropriate training sessions
Attend the whole staff meetings at the beginning of each term (INSET)
Perform any other duties as commensurate with the post that the Head may reasonably ask the Games teachers’ to perform from time to time.
PASTORAL:
Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all pupils. Ensuring in particular that the less sporty child is encouraged and nurtured while promoting healthy competition
Co-CURRICULAR: Contributions to the lunchtime and after-school co-curricular programme is expected. Applicant’s own skills and interests taken into account.
OTHER: Duties – including playground, lunchtime, prep
Writing reports according to school policy
Attending parents’ evenings as required
School events – attendance at and support for regular events throughout the year such as Founder’s Day, Speech Day, Parents’ Association events.
Support the organisation of Sports Days (Prep and PrePrep)
Organisation of girls’ fixtures against other schools and associated transport and catering needs
Support the organisation of INSET for supporting teachers as required and provision of a central stock of material to support staff with their coaching
Organisation of a wet weather programme as necessary
Liaison with grounds staff and Bursar re preparation of pitches, Health and Safety matters and quality of resources
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION FOR THIS POSITION
The successful candidate will ideally possess the following key attributes and experience:
Appropriate qualifications and experience for requested sports (necessary)
· Current Minibus driving qualification (desired)
First Aid qualification (desired)

Coaching experience within team sports and good knowledge of rules/laws

Ability to identify individual needs for gifted and less able pupils and set targets accordingly
Leads by personal example
The salary will be dependent on experience and will be commensurate with the seniority and level of responsibility for this role. The post holder will be automatically enrolled into the qualifying works pension scheme/and the Schools Health Care package.
