Role Overview:

The P.E. Teaching Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and effective delivery of Physical Education at Horizon English School. This role supports PE teachers in lessons, helps with the organisation of clubs and fixtures, and manages the setup of lesson resources to enhance the quality of sports provision for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

Lesson & Curriculum Support

• Assist PE teachers in delivering high-quality lessons by supporting student learning and engagement.
• Set up and pack away equipment for PE lessons, ensuring all resources are available and well-maintained.
• Provide small-group or individual student support during lessons, as directed by the teacher.
• Help ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe and organised manner, following health and safety guidelines.

Clubs & Fixtures

• Support the running of extracurricular sports clubs, ensuring all students are engaged and supported.
• Assist with the planning and logistics of sports fixtures, including organising transport, preparing kits, and liaising with other schools.
• Attend fixtures and tournaments to provide supervision and encouragement to students.
• Help coordinate student participation in inter-school competitions and events.

Equipment & Resource Management

• Ensure PE equipment is well-maintained, stored correctly, and available for lessons and fixtures.
• Conduct regular checks on equipment, reporting any issues to the Head of PE.
• Assist in the ordering and inventory of PE resources.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support the PE team in creating an engaging and inclusive environment for all students.
• Assist in the promotion of physical activity and wellbeing across the school.
• Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the Head of PE or Senior Leadership Team.

Person Specification:

Essential:

• A passion for sport, physical activity, and education.
• Experience working with children in a school, coaching, or sports setting.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage equipment and resources efficiently.
• A proactive and positive attitude, with the ability to work well as part of a team.
• Flexibility to support clubs and fixtures outside of regular school hours.

Desirable:

• A sports coaching qualification or relevant experience in sports leadership.
• First Aid qualification (or willingness to complete training).
• Experience in refereeing or officiating sports matches.
