Job Title: Assistant to Head of School and KS2 Class Teacher with regular teaching committment

Reports to: Head of School

Calder House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Required: A qualified teacher with a love of paperwork and a sound knowledge of the policies that schools are required to have in place.

Key Responsibilities

1. Policies and Compliance

* Review and updating of school policies, both internal and statutory, to ensure that the school is fully compliant with statutory and management requirements: ongoing monitoring and updating of these generating efficient recording process. Preparing advice and evidence to support the Head of School’s policy reviews and ensuring these are diarized for the Head and Governors.

* Maintenance of the Central Register

* Maintenance of the Health and Safety file

2. As the Head’s PA you would:

*  Take the minutes of meetings (for example at pupils’ Annual Review meetings with the LA, weekly staff meetings, twice termly Round Table meetings) and pass these to Head for approval and then circulate

* Assist in the arrangement and preparation of annual reviews 

* Check timetabling at request of Head to ensure no duplication before this is issued

* Input data (for example populating and updating …pupils’ records with information; …the SIEF and SDP; …staff appraisal documents) where directed by the Head

* Format documents, filing, archiving, reviewing current administrative procedures and identifying ways in which they can be improved, circulating emails on behalf of the Head of School and drafting correspondence for her approval.

* Manage the Head of School’s diary alongside the School Diary which is managed by the School Secretary. 

This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive. Moreover, one of the key responsibilities of the role is to identify and suggest ways in which to support the Head of School with her administrative duties

3. Part time Class teacher

*Enjoy a regular teaching commitment in the afternoons each week as agreed with the Head delivering a Foundation subject

* Provide cover for unplanned absences at the request of the Head and identify for the Head where cover is required

The nature of the role will involve being given, over-hearing and working with, confidential and sensitive information relating to pupils, their parents, and staff. Therefore a core responsibility of the role is the exercise of discretion at all times – within the office itself; within school and beyond the school gate.
